FREQUENCY SWEEP [6 records]

Record 1 2010-04-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Measurements
DEF

A test instrument that generates a radio-frequency voltage whose frequency varies back and forth through a given frequency range at a rapid constant rate; used to produce an input signal for circuits or devices whose frequency response is to be observed on an oscilloscope.

OBS

for "sweep oscillator" : An oscillator in which the output frequency varies continuously and periodically between two frequency limits.

OBS

for "wobbulator" : A device, usually mechanical, used to frequency-modulate an oscillator for test purposes.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures électriques
DEF

Record 3 2010-01-29

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
CONT

A sweep ramp provides the tuning voltage for a voltage-tuned oscillator and is simultaneously applied to the horizontal-deflection system of a cathode-ray-tube display. The local-oscillator frequency is mixed with the input signal to produce an intermediate frequency(IF). The IF is detected, filtered, and applied to the vertical deflection plates of the CRT [cathode-ray-tube].

CONT

The receiver has to have suitable pass band characteristics to deal with the pulse modulation side bands, and must be free from paralysis following reception of a large signal ... Its output is rectified and amplified and applied to the cathode-ray tube display, either as a deflexion or an intensity modulation. The cathode-ray tube is also supplied with a range time base ..., synchronized to the pulse transmission, and suitable calibration devices ... are usually also necessary. The form of the display unit depends on the particular radar application, and on what coordinate or coordinates other than range are to be presented. For example, in the plan position indicator the time base starts from the centre of the tube and goes radically outwards in a direction depending on the azimuth of the beamed aerials (which sweeps continuously), and the signal is presented as a spot intensifier.

Record 4 2007-01-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Television (Radioelectricity)
DEF

line sweep : The horizontal to-and-fro movement of the spot at the line frequency.

DEF

horizontal sweep: Movement of the electron beam from left to right across the screen or the scene being televised.

CONT

Horizontal scanning. This linear rise of current in the horizontal deflection coils deflects the beam across the screen with a continuous, uniform motion for the trace from left to right.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télévision (Radioélectricité)
DEF

Record 5 1993-10-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Acoustics (Physics)
DEF

A sweep rate for which the rate of change of frequency per unit of frequency is constant(...)

OBS

For a logarithmic sweep rate, the time to sweep between any two frequencies of fixed ratio is constant. It is recommended that logarithmic sweep rate be expressed in octaves per minute.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Acoustique (Physique)
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Acoustics (Physics)
DEF

A sweep rate for which the rate of change of the independent variable for a sweep, usually frequency, is constant, i. e. df/dt=constant.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Acoustique (Physique)
DEF
