Federal Student Work Experience Program(FSWEP) is the primary vehicle through which federal government departments and agencies recruit students. This program, established in 1990, provides some 8, 000 students a year with temporary jobs in different federal departments and agencies. The core of the program is a computerized national inventory of students seeking a job with the federal public service. This project established a decentralized inventory of Aboriginal people for Citizenship and Immigration Canada to use for staffing summer, term and casual positions. The project also helped departmental employees become more aware of Aboriginal culture, and increased the interest of Aboriginal people in Citizenship and Immigration as an "employer of choice.
