Fiber to the x(FTTX) is a generic term for any broadband network architecture using optical fiber to provide all or part of the local loop used for last mile telecommunications. The term is a generalization for several configurations of fiber deployment, ranging from FTTN(fiber to the neighbourhood) to FTTD(fiber to the desktop).

FTTX (fiber To The X, la fibre jusqu’à ...) [est un] terme générique qui désigne les différentes techniques grâce auxquelles la fibre optique est amenée jusqu’aux usagers finaux. Le «X» devient un H quand la fibre est amenée directement au domicile du client final (FTTH, fiber to the home), B quand la fibre s’arrête en bas de l’immeuble (FTTB, fiber to the building), N quand la fibre est amenée pour un quartier (FTTN, fiber to the neighbourhood), C quand la fibre s’arrête au niveau de la rue, du trottoir (FTTC, fiber to the curb), O quand la fibre est reliée jusqu’au bureau (FTTO, fiber to the office).
