An oil burner is defined by the National Oil Fuel Institute as a mechanical device for preparing fuel oil to combine with air under controlled conditions for combustion. Two methods(atomization and vaporization) are used for the preparation of fuel oil for the combustion process. Air for combustion is supplied by natural or mechanical draft. Ignition is generally accomplished by an electric spark, gas pilot flame, or oil pilot flame. Burners of different types operate with luminous or nonluminous flame. Operation may be continuous, intermittent, modulating, or high-low flame. 4, record 1, English, - oil%20burner

Mechanical atomizers are available in sizes up to 180 million Btu/hr input, about 10, 000 lb of oil per hr. The acceptable operating range may be as much as ten to one or as little as three to one, depending on the maximum oil pressure used for the system, the furnace configuration, air temperature, and burner throat velocity. Return flow atomizers are ideally suited for standard grades of fuel oil where it is desired to meet load variations without changing sprayer plates or cutting burners in and out of service. 4, record 4, English, - mechanical%20atomizer

Domestic burners... employ either one of two methods to prepare the fuel oil for combustion. These are atomization(spraying) and vaporization(heating). Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization... Low-pressure air atomization is also a well-known method that has been used successfully by domestic oil burners to prepare the oil for combustion. This method is peculiar to low-pressure burners. These burners achieve their objective by delivering oil and air to the nozzle at a pressure of from 1 to 15 psi, depending upon the make of the burner. With these burners the oil and air come in contact with each other before leaving the burner. The air is used to atomize the oil into fine particles, and it leaves the nozzle opening in the form of a mist. 1, record 8, English, - low%2Dpressure%20air%20atomization

Domestic burners usually are confined to the use of oils ranging in grade from No. 1 to No. 4 and employ either one of two methods to prepare the fuel oil for combustion. These are atomization(spraying) and vaporisation(heating). Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization.... The third way in which oil is atomized is by use of centrifugal force. The oil is fed to a rapidly rotating cup(3, 450 rpm or faster). It then spreads throughout this cup in a fine film and flies of the outer edge at a high rate of speed in a very finely divided state. Burners that make use of such centrifugal force are of two types from the standpoint of their design : the horizontal rotary type and the vertical rotary type. High-speed motors are required by burners that use this type of atomization exclusively. With centrifugal atomizing burners there is no contact between oil and air until both have left the burner and entered the combustion chamber. 1, record 9, English, - centrifugal%20atomization

Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization. With high-pressure atomization used by high-pressure gun-type burners, the oil pressure is built up to 100 psi by a pump and delivered through an oil line to a specially designed nozzle from which it sprays out into the combustion chamber in a vaporous cloud of tiny globules or droplets. This mist of fine oil droplets is met by a current of air moving down the blast(gun) tube, and the oil and air mix in the combustion chamber after leaving the burner.
