FUEL AUTO [4 records]

Record 1 2013-09-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrical Equipment (Motor Vehicles)
CONT

The sensors and actuators, along with the diagnostic computer software in the on-board computer, make up what is called "the OBD system".

CONT

By the early 1980s, numerous vehicles were using electronics and on-board computers to control many of the engine's control systems, such as fuel and ignition. Vehicle manufacturers had to develop ways to diagnose problems generated by the new electronic hardware found under the hood. Thus, the first OBD systems were developed by auto manufacturers in the early 1980s as electronic systems replaced mechanical systems.

OBS

[One of the main purposes] of the OBD system is to assure proper emission control system operation for the vehicle’s lifetime by monitoring emission-related components and systems for deterioration and malfunction.

Auto Consumables. What are the constituents that keep your vehicle moving? Is it the wheels, the axle, the engine, what? Of course they do. But what keeps them running? It is actually the fuel that keeps it running. And a long list of consumables. These include fuel, engine oil, and various other lubricants that are responsible to keep a vehicle ’alive’.

  • Equipment and Plant (Metallurgy)
DEF

A new automobile body made of high-strength steels that is lighter and stronger than current auto bodies, improves on fuel economy and the way it drives. Dramatic increases in torsional rigidity mean a stiffer body, which means a car that rides and handles better, is steadier in curves, doesn’t wander on the road as much, and the wheels stay on the road better, all of which helps prevent accidents.

CONT

ULSAB shows lighter doesn’t have to be more expensive. It would cost 3% less to produce than a conventional body. Adoption of the whole package at Stelco’s (Michigan) could be as close as four years away.
