  • Aircraft Propulsion Systems
CONT

A fuel boost pump bypass valve allows engine driven pumps to draw fuel from the main tanks if all boost pumps in the tank are inoperative.

French

Domaine(s)

  • Propulsion des aéronefs
CONT

Le carburant refoulé par les pompes B.P. [...] après avoir été [...] filtré, est pris en charge par une pompe entraînée par le réacteur. Cette pompe augmente la pression du carburant [jusqu'à] 50 à 100 bars.

OBS

OBS

A.C.: Alternating current.

OBS

alternating current: Electric current that reverses direction periodically, usually many times per second.

CONT

The fuel-oil heater serves a twofold purpose, it is designed to cool the oil and preheat the fuel for combustion.

CONT

Bell 212 helicopter... Engine power loss. Engine tear-down inspections revealed that the number two engine was not operating on impact and the fuel oil heater had malfunctioned, however this malfunction alone would not cause the engine to stop operating. If fuel pressure upstream from the engine driven boost pump is lost when the fuel oil heater has malfunctioned(allowing the fuel to be heated), the engine will stop operating. Since the investigation revealed no other reason for the engine to stop operating, it is likely that the number two engine shut down due to a loss of line fuel pressure provided by the electrical boost pumps, coincident with the malfunctioning fuel oil heater.

Additional loads are automatically shed if an engine is shut down. This additional shedding partially offsets the hydraulic system requirement for additional electrical power to operate the electric demand pump. All cabin indirect ceiling lights, the forward direct ceiling lights and the respective fuel override boost pump are shed.
