1, record 25, French, - cycle%20du%20combustible%20ferm%C3%A9

Something that would make ecologists happy is a clean airplane. And the Ipanema, Brazil' s first totally alcohol-powered aircraft, is almost off the ground. The project has been in development for two years, under the wing of Neiva, a division of the aircraft manufacturer Embraer and Brazil' s largest agricultural aircraft manufacturer. The Ipanema does not pollute because, unlike conventionally fuelled engines, its alcohol-fuelled engine releases no lead residues into the atmosphere. However, for farmers, the real advantage is low operating cost. "Alcohol is four times less expensive than regular aviation fuel. So, while the alcohol engine consumes a little more fuel, just like automobiles, the bottom line is a savings of about 60 percent"... The alcohol-fuelled engine also boasts five percent more power. This slight advantage will allow the plane to carry extra quantities of crop-dusting products. Another advantage is that this type of engine runs cooler, giving it a longer maintenance cycle and useful life... The aircraft is still in the approval process, so the first alcohol-powered Ipanema will not fly until March 2005, after it has been completely certified. 1, record 44, English, - alcohol%20aircraft

Systems Analysis of a Future Semi-Reusable Launcher, Based on a High Thrust Bleed Cycle Rocket Engine. In this paper a high thrust, cryogenic bleed cycle engine, to be used for propulsion of future reusable booster stages(liquid fly back boosters), of an expendable heavy lift launcher, is analyzed. The system configuration remains unchanged, in terms of total available fuel and the number of engines, hereas the variation of the engine parameters result in a change of total system mass and payload capacity. Different arrangements of bleed cycles are being analyzed, and compared with each other. The paper describes a simplified heat transfer model, used in the analysis of the suggested cycles. The thrust chamber design is discussed and a preliminary design of the booster vehicle, including a trajectory analysis, is presented. 3, record 45, English, - semi%2Dreusable%20launcher

Constant Volume Sampler(CVS). Motor vehicle exhaust is a complex mixture of unburned fuel, combustion products(including a high water vapor content), and intake air that exits the tail pipe at high temperatures. In simulated driving conditions on the dynamometer, the volume of the exhaust emitted from the tail pipe is continually changing depending on where in the driving cycle the vehicle is(for example, during acceleration, during deceleration, at constant speed, or at idle). To quantitatively determine emission rates from vehicles, we use a constant volume sampling system, which maintains a constant total flow rate of vehicle exhaust plus dilution air. With a CVS system, as exhaust flow increases, such as during heavy acceleration, the dilution air is automatically decreased and the sampling source is representative of exhaust variations. This CVS system provides the source for all exhaust samples collected(regulated and unregulated). Because some compounds present in the exhaust are soluble in water, quantitative transfer requires that the diluted exhaust be maintained above its dew point by providing sufficient dilution air through the CVS. In addition, sampling components, such as the raw exhaust transfer duct and sample lines, must be heated to prevent water condensation. 2, record 47, English, - constant%20volume%20sampling

The CargoLifter is an airship, which can carry up to 160t of freight like a crane. Goods up to the size of 12 x 5 x 5 m can be carried at a speed of 100 km/h. Maximum range is 10. 000 km.... The advantage of CargoLifter is, that transport can take place in rural areas with little or no infrastructure. Transport times are cut by a factor of 10 and the complexity of the project is reduced significantly.... The loading cycle will take about half a day to unload and 3/4 days to load. The CargoLifter can take 72 TEU in a box, but the weight volume ratio is very low(1 : 20). The weight alone would account for 136t or 85% of the payload. The remaining 44t can take 2800 cubic meters of space(weight to volume of 1 : 62).... CargoLifter will use marine diesel engines and propellers for thrust. Installed power is expected to be 9. 3 MW, for a top speed of 135 km/h. The average speed will be about 100 km/h, which requires about 5 MW and an hourly fuel consumption of 1 tonne(specific fuel burn approx. 200 g/kWh). 3, record 55, English, - CargoLifter

3, record 55, French, - Cargolifter
