Natural Resources Canada is responsible for a set of initiatives to promote energy efficiency and alternative energy in the transportation area. Motor Vehicle Fuel Efficiency. Purpose : To inform purchasers of new cars, light trucks and vans about the fuel efficiency of these vehicles and to encourage motor vehicle manufacturers to undertake further improvements in vehicle fuel efficiency. Program Description : Under the Motor Vehicle Fuel Consumption Program delivered by Transport Canada and NRCan, motor vehicle manufacturers have met voluntary annual Company Average Fuel Consumption(CAFC) standards for new automobiles sold in Canada. In addition, the program involves the publication and distribution of the annual Fuel Consumption Guide and manufacturers apply fuel-consumption labels to new vehicles.

Le programme comporte également la publication et la diffusion du Guide de consommation d'essence annuel et l'apposition par les fabricants, sur les nouveaux véhicules, d'étiquettes indiquant la consommation d'essence.
