Constant Volume Sampler(CVS). Motor vehicle exhaust is a complex mixture of unburned fuel, combustion products(including a high water vapor content), and intake air that exits the tail pipe at high temperatures. In simulated driving conditions on the dynamometer, the volume of the exhaust emitted from the tail pipe is continually changing depending on where in the driving cycle the vehicle is(for example, during acceleration, during deceleration, at constant speed, or at idle). To quantitatively determine emission rates from vehicles, we use a constant volume sampling system, which maintains a constant total flow rate of vehicle exhaust plus dilution air. With a CVS system, as exhaust flow increases, such as during heavy acceleration, the dilution air is automatically decreased and the sampling source is representative of exhaust variations. This CVS system provides the source for all exhaust samples collected(regulated and unregulated). Because some compounds present in the exhaust are soluble in water, quantitative transfer requires that the diluted exhaust be maintained above its dew point by providing sufficient dilution air through the CVS. In addition, sampling components, such as the raw exhaust transfer duct and sample lines, must be heated to prevent water condensation. 2, record 4, English, - constant%20volume%20sampling

3, record 4, French, - %C3%A9chantillonnage%20%C3%A0%20volume%20constant

Another important type of non-Newtonian fluid is a viscoplastic or "yield stress" fluid. This is a fluid which will not flow when only a small shear stress is applied. The shear stress must exceed a critical value known as the yield stress... for the fluid to flow. For example, when you open a tube of toothpaste, it would be good if the paste does not flow at the slightest amount of shear stress. We need to apply an adequate force before the toothpaste will start flowing. So, viscoplastic fluids behave like solids when the applied shear stress is less than the yield stress. Once it exceeds the yield stress, the viscoplastic fluid will flow just like a fluid. Bingham plastics are a special class of viscoplastic fluids that exhibit a linear behavior of shear stress against shear rate.... Examples of viscoplastic fluids are drilling mud, nuclear fuel slurries, mayonnaise, toothpaste, and blood. 1, record 6, English, - yield%20stress%20fluid

... the functional parts of a typical nozzle.... The flow rate, spray angle, and pattern are directly related to the design of the tangential slots swirl chamber and orifice. In operation, a source of energy is needed to break up the oil into small droplets. Therefore, pressure is supplied to the nozzle from the oil pump.... However, pressure energy alone is not enough to do the job. It must be converted to velocity energy. This is accomplished by directing the pressurized fuel through a set of slots. These slots are cut in the distributor at an angle, or tangentially, to produce a high velocity rotation within the swirl chamber. At this point, about half of the pressure energy is converted to velocity energy. 3, record 9, English, - tangential%20slot
