Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In the diesel engine, air is drawn into the cylinder and compressed to approximately 500 psi. Ignition occurs as fuel is injected into the compressed and heated air. Combustion takes place within the cylinder above the piston, and expansion of the combustion products provides power to the piston. 6, record 1, English, - diesel%20engine

3, record 3, French, - injection%20assist%C3%A9e%20par%20air%20comprim%C3%A9

In an indirect injection diesel engine, fuel is injected into a small prechamber which is connected to the cylinder by a narrow opening. The initial combustion takes place in this prechamber. This has the effect of slowing the rate of combustion, which tends to reduce audible noise. In a direct injection diesel engine, fuel is injected directly into the cylinder. The piston incorporates a depression(often toroidal) which is where initial combustion takes place. Direct injection diesel engines are generally more efficient than indirect injection engines, but have a tendency to produce greater amounts of audible noise. In either case the location where combustion takes place, called a swirl chamber, is carefully designed to ensure adequate mixing of the atomized fuel with the compression-heated air. 4, record 4, English, - direct%2Dinjection%20diesel%20engine

In a typical gas turbine engine, swirl is introduced into the air from the compressor by swirl vanes(typically small airfoils at high angles of attack) in the premixer located upstream of the combustor. Fuel is then injected into this swirling airflow in the premixer so that a swirling, premixed fuel-air mixture enters the combustor. 2, record 5, English, - swirl
