2, record 5, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20d%C3%A9marrage%20automatique

Nuclear Power Demonstration reactor. This was the prototype CANDU reactor, and the first power reactor in Canada. It was located upstream of AECL' s Chalk River laboratories, along the Ottawa River's south shore(i. e. in Ontario). The reactor had a maximum continuous output of 22 MWe gross(19. 5 MWe net)... The reactor was built as a joint AECL/Ontario Hydro/Canadian General Electric project, and was initially intended to use a vertically-fuelled pressure vessel reactor. The design was changed in 1957 to natural uranium fuel bundles in horizontal pressure tubes in unpressurized heavy water moderator, with on-line refuelling. These are hallmarks of the CANDU reactor. The reactor had 132 fuel channels(each fuel channel comprised a pressure tube inside a calandria tube) and the coolant leaving the channels was 7. 2 MPa and 277°C. The main reactivity control was by adjusting the heavy-water moderator level, which could be rapidly dumped for fast shut down. NPD was finally shut down on May 5 1987, for economic reasons... 4, record 7, English, - nuclear%20power%20demonstration%20reactor

2, record 28, French, - taxe%20sur%20les%20%C3%A9missions%20carboniques

The system also includes lavatory facilities. The cabin is pressurized to sea level(14. 7 psi) with 21 percent oxygen and 79 percent nitrogen, comparable to Earth's atmosphere. The air is circulated through lithium hydroxide/charcoal canisters which remove carbon dioxide. The canisters are changed on a regular basis. Excess heat from the cabin and flight-deck electronics is collected by a circulating coolant water system and transferred to radiator panels on the payload bay doors where it is dissipated. The fuel cells produce about seven pounds of water each hour. It is stored in tanks, and excess water is dumped overboard. The lavatory unit collects and processes body waste, and also collects wash water from the personal hygiene station. The lavatory unit, located in the middeck area, operates much like those on commercial airlines but is designed for a weightless space environment. 3, record 36, English, - environment%20control%20and%20life%20support%20system

2, record 37, French, - transformation%20du%20combustible%20dans%20un%20r%C3%A9acteur%20microstructur%C3%A9

Basic system operation and performance allow for the processing of contaminated JP-5 fuel that consists of any combination of particulates, water, and aviation fuel. Contaminated fuel is loaded into the process tank via a defueler truck used to collect the segregated JP-5 from squadron hazardous waste storage sites. The fuel is circulated at 15 gpm through the system until it is determined to be visually clean via a sampling port. A gravity drain valve allows for the discharge of wastewater stripped from the fuel during circulation. Depending on the level of particulate contamination, the fuel may be considered clean(less than 2mg/1 particulates, less than 5ppm free water) after one pass through the system or several. A sample of the fuel is then sent to the laboratory for further testing, especially with respect to the flash point. The system can only remove water and particulates. 3, record 45, English, - fuel%20reclaimer

Air release chambers are installed ahead of any metering equipment to ensure accurate measurement of fuel flow. They may be installed in either the pumphouse or on the dispensing platform. They operate on the reduced flow velocity principle which separates and eliminates air from the fuel. As the fuel enters the air release chamber(the diameter of which is much greater than the diameter of the inlet to the air release body), the velocity of the flow is greatly reduced allowing an interval of time for the air to separate from the fuel. The air, being lighter than the liquid, rises to the top of the chamber, where it remains until a sufficient quantity has accumulated to lower the liquid level, causing the float to drop, which in turn opens the vent valve and allows the accumulated air to escape. In most cases the line from the air vent is returned to the storage or scavenger tank to prevent spraying fuel into the surrounding area in case of a malfunction of the air release chamber. 1, record 51, English, - air%20release%20chamber

1, record 51, French, - chambre%20de%20d%C3%A9sa%C3%A9ration

Combat service support command relationship in which the gaining commander has authority to direct and responsibility for meeting the routine requirements for combat supplies of the transferred unit or formation. The parent unit or formation retains responsibility for all personnel and logistic support other than fuel and lubricants, ammunition, rations and water. Support in other areas(eg, medical, spare parts, recovery) may be provided by the gaining unit or formation if resources permit. This is the minimum or lowest level of command relationships for service support operations in a transfer between two Canadian units or formations.
