The preliminary mechanical processing of the dried [hemp] stalks involves some fairly vigorous handling of the raw material, including breaking, scutching and the separation of the line fibres from the tow and other by-products. The stronger, more solid fibre bundles keep their original lengths and parallelism. During breaking and scutching the weaker and shorter fibres(tow), especially those at the foot of the stalks, break away and are removed together with the hurds, dust, soil, etc.... The hurds are removed pneumatically and may be sold for use as natural fertiliser, for the heat insulation of buildings, as fuel or as animal litter... The hemp tow is then passed through a conveyer drier that can use either hot or cold air. 1, record 3, English, - hemp%20tow

A [coke drum] is a type of pressure vessel that uses heat and pressure to refine complex hydrocarbons into lighter, more useful products, such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. Coke drums are an integral part of coker units and serve as the final step in the cracking process. During the process, crude oil is fed into a coker, where it is first heated to cracking temperature in a furnace. The Petrogen® Liquid Fuel Cutting System is a solid, proven technology that brings you unequally safety, performance, and cost savings. Petrogen makes cuts that are impossible with any other torch, incredibly fast and clean with less airborne contaminants. Petrogen cuts up to 14 inches of steel. The powerful flame easily cuts through layers and across air gaps, through rust, paint, even concrete-backed steel without popping. Petrogen fuel is regular liquid gasoline, kept liquid from the tank to the tip. The Petrogen System is much safer than compressed gas systems such as acetylene or propane. Fuel line backflash is impossible! Many built-in safety features provide the safest cutting torch made. [Text followed by an illustration. ] 2, record 12, English, - Petrogen%C2%AE%20torch

Actinide co-conversion is a key step, between fuel reprocessing, and refabrication. Two processes are being developed, to produce a solid actinide compound, at the head of the fabrication line, having practically the right, desired preform : these are the sol–gel process, using internal gelation, to form spherical actinide kernels(coated particle concept) ; andoxalic coprecipitation, to form a solid solution of actinides(pellet, or cylindrical pellet concept). 2, record 14, English, - actinide%20co%2Dconversion

The shortage of food and fuel has become more and more serious in many developing countries owing to the congestion of population. From this viewpoint, the enzymatic saccharification of cellulosic materials, mainly renewable agricultural residues, is a countermeasure against this problem. The proper maintenance of fuel line and fittings is particularly important because of the flammability of fuel.... Fuel lines must be routed and supported in such a manner that they will not be damaged by vibration, abrasion, or chafing. Fuel lines must be kept separate from electrical wiring except in cases where this is not possible. If fuel line and electrical wiring must be routed together, the fuel line must be located below the electrical wiring and clamped securely to the aircraft structure.... Record number: 34, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A monopropellant is a chemical propulsion fuel which does not require a separate oxidizer. A rocket engine which is based on a monopropellant requires only one fuel line instead of a fuel and an oxidizer line. The "mono" in monopropellant means singular-a fuel that can function alone. A chemical propulsion system that combines like hydrogen and oxygen would be a bipropellant. A monopropellant burns by itself because the oxidizer is bound into the molecule itself. This makes the rocket engine lighter, less expensive, and more reliable. Monopropellant designs are typically used in control thrusters but not in actual propulsion units. 4, record 34, English, - monopropellant
Record number: 34, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The most commonly used monopropellant is hydrazine (N2H4), a chemical which is characterized as "strongly reducing". The most common catalyst is granular alumina coated with iridium (aka. Shell-405). There is no igniter with hydrazine. Shell 405 is a spontaneous catalyst, that is, hydrazine decomposes on contact with the catalyst. The reaction is highly exothermic and produces an 1800°F (1000°C) gas that is a mixture of nitrogen, hydrogen and ammonia. Another monopropellant is hydrogen peroxide, which, when purified to 90% or higher concentration, is self-decomposing at high temperatures or when a catalyst is present. 5, record 34, English, - monopropellant

Something that would make ecologists happy is a clean airplane. And the Ipanema, Brazil' s first totally alcohol-powered aircraft, is almost off the ground. The project has been in development for two years, under the wing of Neiva, a division of the aircraft manufacturer Embraer and Brazil' s largest agricultural aircraft manufacturer. The Ipanema does not pollute because, unlike conventionally fuelled engines, its alcohol-fuelled engine releases no lead residues into the atmosphere. However, for farmers, the real advantage is low operating cost. "Alcohol is four times less expensive than regular aviation fuel. So, while the alcohol engine consumes a little more fuel, just like automobiles, the bottom line is a savings of about 60 percent"... The alcohol-fuelled engine also boasts five percent more power. This slight advantage will allow the plane to carry extra quantities of crop-dusting products. Another advantage is that this type of engine runs cooler, giving it a longer maintenance cycle and useful life... The aircraft is still in the approval process, so the first alcohol-powered Ipanema will not fly until March 2005, after it has been completely certified. 1, record 36, English, - alcohol%20aircraft

Methanol alcohol is used as a winter treatment for automobile gasoline-so called "fuel line antifreeze". Actually, it's not an antifreeze at all in the sense that it doesn’t prevent the water in your gas tank from freezing. Since water won’t mix with gasoline and rolls around on the bottom of your tank it freezes in winter. If it gets in your fuel line it will cause fuel line freeze-ups. Water dissolves in alcohol, and alcohol dissolves in gasoline and it is in this way that your tank is purged of water. 5, record 38, English, - fuel%20line%20antifreeze

If fuel pressure upstream from the engine driven boost pump is lost when the fuel oil heater has malfunctioned(allowing the fuel to be heated), the engine will stop operating. Air release chambers are installed ahead of any metering equipment to ensure accurate measurement of fuel flow. They may be installed in either the pumphouse or on the dispensing platform. They operate on the reduced flow velocity principle which separates and eliminates air from the fuel. As the fuel enters the air release chamber(the diameter of which is much greater than the diameter of the inlet to the air release body), the velocity of the flow is greatly reduced allowing an interval of time for the air to separate from the fuel. The air, being lighter than the liquid, rises to the top of the chamber, where it remains until a sufficient quantity has accumulated to lower the liquid level, causing the float to drop, which in turn opens the vent valve and allows the accumulated air to escape. In most cases the line from the air vent is returned to the storage or scavenger tank to prevent spraying fuel into the surrounding area in case of a malfunction of the air release chamber. 1, record 50, English, - air%20release%20chamber

1, record 50, French, - chambre%20de%20d%C3%A9sa%C3%A9ration

Domestic burners... employ either one of two methods to prepare the fuel oil for combustion. These are atomization(spraying) and vaporization(heating). Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization. With high-pressure atomization used by high-pressure gun-type burners, the oil pressure is built up to 100 psi by a pump and delivered through an oil line to a specially designed nozzle from which it sprays out into the combustion chamber in a vaporous cloud of tiny globules or droplets. This mist of fine oil droplets is met by a current of air moving down the blast(gun) tube, and the oil and air mix in the combustion chamber after leaving the burner. Ignition is accomplished with an electric spark. 2, record 51, English, - high%2Dpressure%20atomization

A compliant device used to interface a robot or other mechanical workhead to its tool or working medium. The RCC allows a gripped part to rotate about its tip or to translate without rotating when pushed laterally at its tip. The RCC thus provides general lateral and rotational "float" and greatly eases robot or other mechanical assembly in the presence of errors in parts, jigs, pallets and robots.
