FUEL OIL HEATER [9 records]

Record 1 2008-12-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Heating
  • Biomass Energy
CONT

The central wood furnace is a third alternative to conventional oil, gas or electric heating. Unlike the wood stove, it is a device designed to take on the larger fraction of the home heat load, although a back-up source-for example, an electric plenum heater-will generally be added on... recently developed furnaces use wood chips or pellets rather than firewood, to allow for a much easier distribution and loading of the fuel.

DEF

A self-contained heating appliance, which may or may not include an integral fan for circulating air, which may be of the floor-mounted or suspended type, intended for the heating of the space in which it is installed.

CONT

... unit heaters in present use can usually be classified according to one or more methods: 1. By Heating Medium ... a) steam, b) hot water, c) gas indirect-fired, d) oil indirect-fired, e) electric. 2. By Type of Fan ... a) propeller, b) centrifugal, and c) remote air mover ... 3. By Arrangement of Elements ... a) the draw-through type, in which the fan draws air through and b) the blow-through type, in which the fan blows air through the heating element. Indirect-fired unit heaters are always of the blow-through type.

CONT

A unit heater [means] a forced convection heating device of two types : 1) an assembly of encased heating surface with fan and motor(or turbine) and for connection to a source of steam or hot water; 2) an assembly of the above plus a fuel burner so that the device is for connection to a source of oil or gas(or supplied with coal) and not to steam or water lines.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fours et chaudières (Chauffage)
DEF

The fuel-oil heater serves a twofold purpose, it is designed to cool the oil and preheat the fuel for combustion.

CONT

Bell 212 helicopter... Engine power loss. Engine tear-down inspections revealed that the number two engine was not operating on impact and the fuel oil heater had malfunctioned, however this malfunction alone would not cause the engine to stop operating. If fuel pressure upstream from the engine driven boost pump is lost when the fuel oil heater has malfunctioned(allowing the fuel to be heated), the engine will stop operating. Since the investigation revealed no other reason for the engine to stop operating, it is likely that the number two engine shut down due to a loss of line fuel pressure provided by the electrical boost pumps, coincident with the malfunctioning fuel oil heater.

CONT

The residue fired thermal oil heater... utilizes a factory pre-fabricated system, consisting of the burner and thermal oil heater, minimizing the amount of field direction required. These units are offered in two configurations, one for burning dry fuel, and the other suitable for wet hogged fuel.

CONT

Fuel oil preparation systems consist of oil heater, oil temperature controls, strainers, and associated valves and piping required to maintain fuel oil at the temperatures necessary to control the oil viscosity, to facilitate oil flow and burning, and to remove suspended matter.... storage tank heaters are usually made of pipe coils or grids using steam or hot water... as the heating medium. Electric heaters are sometimes used... heaters to regulate viscosity at the burners are installed between the oil pumps and the burners.

Domaine(s)
  • Fumisterie et brûleurs
OBS
