Bell 212 helicopter... Engine power loss. Engine tear-down inspections revealed that the number two engine was not operating on impact and the fuel oil heater had malfunctioned, however this malfunction alone would not cause the engine to stop operating. If fuel pressure upstream from the engine driven boost pump is lost when the fuel oil heater has malfunctioned(allowing the fuel to be heated), the engine will stop operating. Since the investigation revealed no other reason for the engine to stop operating, it is likely that the number two engine shut down due to a loss of line fuel pressure provided by the electrical boost pumps, coincident with the malfunctioning fuel oil heater. 3, record 4, English, - fuel%2Doil%20heater

Domestic burners... employ either one of two methods to prepare the fuel oil for combustion. These are atomization(spraying) and vaporization(heating). Atomization or spraying is divided into three types, namely, high-pressure atomization, low-pressure atomization, and centrifugal atomization. With high-pressure atomization used by high-pressure gun-type burners, the oil pressure is built up to 100 psi by a pump and delivered through an oil line to a specially designed nozzle from which it sprays out into the combustion chamber in a vaporous cloud of tiny globules or droplets. This mist of fine oil droplets is met by a current of air moving down the blast(gun) tube, and the oil and air mix in the combustion chamber after leaving the burner. Ignition is accomplished with an electric spark. 2, record 5, English, - high%2Dpressure%20atomization

... the functional parts of a typical nozzle.... The flow rate, spray angle, and pattern are directly related to the design of the tangential slots swirl chamber and orifice. In operation, a source of energy is needed to break up the oil into small droplets. Therefore, pressure is supplied to the nozzle from the oil pump.... However, pressure energy alone is not enough to do the job. It must be converted to velocity energy. This is accomplished by directing the pressurized fuel through a set of slots. These slots are cut in the distributor at an angle, or tangentially, to produce a high velocity rotation within the swirl chamber. At this point, about half of the pressure energy is converted to velocity energy. 3, record 6, English, - tangential%20slot
