Actinide co-conversion is a key step, between fuel reprocessing, and refabrication. Two processes are being developed, to produce a solid actinide compound, at the head of the fabrication line, having practically the right, desired preform : these are the sol–gel process, using internal gelation, to form spherical actinide kernels(coated particle concept) ; andoxalic coprecipitation, to form a solid solution of actinides(pellet, or cylindrical pellet concept). 2, record 15, English, - actinide%20co%2Dconversion

… for the integral fuel cycle proposed for GCFR [a nuclear project], all the HMs [heavy metals] have to be together extracted during reprocessing and then used to manufacture new fuel. Reprocessing, undertaken in Europe and Russia, separates this uranium and plutonium from the wastes so that they can be recycled for re-use in a nuclear reactor as a mixed oxide(MOX) fuel. 1, record 22, French, - cycle%20du%20combustible%20ferm%C3%A9

Commercial reprocessing plants contain dissolvers based on one of two principles : batch operation or continuous operation using an apparatus with rotating mechanical parts. In a typical batch dissolver the fuel is sheared into a large basket which is immersed in the dissolver vessel. After the fuel has been leached, the basket is removed from the dissolver using a crane and then tipped to transfer the hulls and other debris to the encapsulation plant. This system requires extensive mechanical handling of the dissolver basket which is heavy and needs a large amount of maintainable equipment in the shielded dissolver cell. 1, record 26, English, - batch%20dissolver

1, record 47, French, - d%C3%A9chet%20%C3%A0%20activit%C3%A9%20%C3%A9lev%C3%A9e
