FUEL REQUIREMENT [8 records]

Record 1 2023-05-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Collaboration with the FAO
  • Ship Piloting
  • Saving and Consumption
  • Commercial Fishing
CONT

For a fishing vessel with a requirement to tow large loads at low speeds and to have a reasonable free-running speed, a controllable pitch propeller would seem the obvious choice. The propeller efficiency can be maintained at a high level in the two major modes of operation[, ] which realizes a considerable saving in fuel over the life of the vessel.

Record 2 2008-11-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Combustion and Fuels (Fireplaces)
  • Nuclear Fission Reactors
CONT

Prior art fuel elements used in nuclear reactors can be divided into two general classes--flat plate fuel elements and cylindrical rod fuel elements. A requirement for plate fuel elements is that the fuel be metallurgically bonded to the cladding. Fuel elements of this type are conventionally brazed in parallel relation between two side plates.

English

Subject field(s)
  • White Products (Petroleum)
CONT

Since World War II the demand for light products(gasoline, jet, and diesel fuels) has grown, while the requirement for heavy industrial fuel oils has declined.

CONT

Products periodically available for sale or trade. Clean products [:] gasoline, diesel fuels, heating oil, aviation fuels.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Produits blancs (Pétrole)
CONT

Produits périodiquement à vendre ou à échanger. Produits légers [:] essence, carburant diesel, mazout domestique, carburant aviation.

  • Types of Ships and Boats
  • Propulsion of Water-Craft
  • Sea Operations (Military)
  • Combat Systems (Naval Forces)
CONT

After considering fuel capacity and a long range requirement, the intended surface-effect arrangement for the YS2000 has been replaced by a streamlined monohull design but retains very low infrared, optical and radar signatures.

CONT

La grande capacité de carburant nécessaire pour satisfaire à l'autonomie spécifiée a fait renoncer à la formule hydroglisseur au profit d'une solution monocoque très effilé de 63 m.

Subject field(s)
  • Energy Transformation
CONT

Gasification is a thermal process to convert solid fuel into gasified fuel by non-stoichiometric, partial combustion.... The most established gasifier system is the down-draught gasifier. It produces an almost tar-free gas and can be constructed on a relatively large scale compared to other systems. Its disadvantage is the requirement for fuel preparation, which must be well cut, uniform wood or charcoal, with a moisture content not greater than 20%.

CONT

The "downdraft" (or coflow) gasifiers ... used widely during World War II produce very little tar and oil and are much more practical in small sizes for producing clean gas. Air (oxygen) is introduced at nozzles or tuyères which form a complex reaction zone not amenable to scale-up or simple analysis.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Transformation de l'énergie
DEF

DEF

Represents the total requirement for all uses of energy in Canada, including energy used by the final consumer, intermediate uses of energy in transforming one energy form to another(e. g. coal to electricity), and energy used by suppliers in providing energy to the market(e. g. pipeline fuel).

DEF

Additional loads are automatically shed if an engine is shut down. This additional shedding partially offsets the hydraulic system requirement for additional electrical power to operate the electric demand pump. All cabin indirect ceiling lights, the forward direct ceiling lights and the respective fuel override boost pump are shed.
