CONT

The Combustion Integrated Rack(CIR), will be uniquely configured to support microgravity combustion research on board ISS. Combustion experiment equipment will be installed on-orbit in the CIR to customize it to perform many different experiments during the ten or more years that it will operate on board ISS. Studies of laminar flames, reaction kinetics, droplet and spray combustion, flame spread, fire and fire suppressants, condensed phase organic fuel combustion, turbulent combustion, soot and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and flame-synthesized materials are planned.

OBS

The powered racks are called the Fluids Integrated Rack (FIR), Combustion Integrated Rack (CIR), and Shared Accommodations Rack (SAR). The combustion and fluids disciplines share racks and mutually necessary hardware within FCF [Fluids and Combustion Facility] to dramatically reduce cost and effectively use ISS resources ... The CIR features a 100-liter combustion chamber surrounded by optical and other diagnostic packages including a gas chromatograph. The CIR is the only rack on ISS dedicated to combustion experimentation.

OBS

combustion integrated rack; CIR: term and abbreviation officially approved by the International Space Station official approval Group (ISSOAG).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Stations orbitales
OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Aircraft Propulsion Systems
OBS

A concentric ring at the backend of an afterburner that stabilizes the flame when the engine is in afterburner.

CONT

If installing gutter ring on spare part flameholder P/N 4906T117G02, line out the old part number/serial number and etch the spare part flameholder P/N and /N onto the gutter ring.

CONT

The Adour is a low bypass, twin-spool, axial flow turbofan engine.... The combustion chamber is of annular construction incorporating 18 fuel spray nozzles. Surrounding the core of the engine is the bypass duct, providing a bypass ratio of 0. 75 : 1. The jet pipe incorporates the reheat assembly, consisting of four concentric vapour gutter rings and two catalytic ignitors.

CONT

The swirling combustion flow of an afterburner with two V-gutter rings and six side-inlets is analyzed numerically by using two different combustion models.

OBS

gutter: Flameholder having cross-section generally in form of V, open side to rear, to create strong turbulence sufficient to keep flame attached.

OBS

A nozzle is also expected to deliver the atomized fuel to the combustion chamber in a uniform spray pattern and a spray angle best suited to the requirements of a specific burner.

  • Chauffage au gaz et au mazout
CONT

CONT

Air Atomizing Oil Burners. Except for the nozzle, this burner is similar in construction to the pressure atomizing burner. Atomizing air and oil are supplied to individual parts within the nozzle. The nozzle design allows the oil to break up into small droplet form as a result of the shear forces created by the atomizing air. The atomized oil is carried from the nozzle through the outlet orifice by the air flow into the furnace.

CONT

air atomizing burners are designed to use compressed air at either high or low pressure for atomization.

OBS

[The] atomizing oil burner [is] an oil burner which delivers fuel oil to the combustion zone in the form of tiny droplets. It uses some form of nozzle or orifice to spray the oil into the combustion chamber. An atomizing oil burner is classified by the medium used to break up the oil into fine particles.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Fumisterie et brûleurs
CONT

CONT

In the steam atomizing burner, atomization is accomplished by the impact and expansion of steam. Oil and steam flow in separate channels through the burner gun to the nozzle where the steam and oil mix before being discharged through an orifice into the combustion space. This type of burner is used mainly on large boilers generating steam at 100 psi and higher and having capacities above 12,000,000 Btu per hr input...

CONT
