A person's pat­rimony is, in principle, [composed] of all assets and liabilities that can be translated into a pecuniary value. It is that patrimony, viewed in terms of its present assets at the time of seizure and sale, that is made liable for the fulfilment of a debtor's obligations. The patrimony is known as the common pledge of creditors.

Un des actes constitutifs de compagnie [...] le substantif «charte» [et] l'expression «lettres patentes» ne sont plus employés en France. Ce sont des termes de droit monarchique [...] Le Canada étant un pays monarchique, «charte» et «lettres patentes» continuent d'y avoir droit de cité. «Acte constitutif» correspondrait peut-être mieux que ces deux termes, cependant, aux réalités contemporaines.
