FULL BORE [4 records]

Record 1 2017-10-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
DEF

A small mud pit with a capacity of 10 to 15 bbl, usually with 1 bbl divisions, used exclusively to ascertain the amount of mud necessary to keep the well bore full with the exact amount of mud that is displaced by drill pipe. When the bit comes out of the hole, a volume of mud equal to that which the drill pipe occupied while in the hole must be pumped into the hole to replace the pipe. When the bit goes back in the hole, the drill pipe displaces a certain amount of mud, and a trip tank again can be used to keep track of this volume.

Subject field(s)
  • Equipment (Oil and Natural Gas Extraction)
  • Oil Drilling
  • Petroleum Technology - Safety
CONT

A stabbing valve is kept on the work floor to put into tubing if needed, when the well begins blowing in.... The stabbing valve must...(a) be a National Association of Corrosion Engineers rated full opening valve with the proper threads to mate to the completion string thread in use;(b) the stabbing valve must have a pressure rating equal to or greater than the blow out preventer pressure rating;(c) extended bails must be used to allow string weight to be borne by the tubing, rather than the stabbing valve;(d) the stabbing valve must not be used as a working valve;(e) the stabbing valve must be stored in an area immediately accessible to the well bore.

CONT

Every drilling installation should be equipped with ancillary well control equipment consisting of ... at least two stabbing valves with appropriate cross-over subs to fit each type of connection in the drilling assembly which should be designed to be safely and quickly installed in the drilling assembly and closed to isolate and control pressure in the drill stem to allow the kelly or high pressure circulating head to be installed.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Extraction Procedures - Various (Mining)
  • Excavation (Construction)
CONT

The drift method is used where the rock is so poor that the face must be attacked in more than two steps.

OBS

In driving a large tunnel, it may be advantageous to drive a small tunnel, called a drift, through all or a portion of the length of the tunnel prior to excavating the full bore.

Domaine(s)
  • Procédés d'extraction divers (Exploit. minière)
  • Fouilles (Construction)
OBS

English

Subject field(s)
  • Extraction Procedures - Various (Mining)
  • Excavation (Construction)
CONT

There are several methods of attacking the faces of tunnels driven through rock. The method selected will depend on the size of the bore, the equipment available, the condition of the formation, and the extent to which timbering is required. The more common methods of attack are :full face, hearing and bench, drift, pilot tunnel.
