Standard Beam. The standard beam mode operates with any one of seven beam positions, referred to as S1 to S7. The nominal incidence angle range covered by the full set of standard beam is from 20 degrees(at the inner edge of S1) to 49 degrees(at the outer edge of S7). The spatial resolution is 27 m in azimuth and 26 m(near) to 20 m(far) in range direction. Each individual beam covers a minimum ground swath of 100 km within the total 500 km accessibility swath of the full set of Standard beams. The nominal spatial resolution in the range direction is 26 m for S1 at near range to 20 m for S7 at far range. The azimuth resolution is the same, 27 m, for all beam positions. Standard beam modes allow imaging over a wide range of incidence angles with optimum system image quality.

The interest of a ground based Slit Aperture Telescope(SAT) which operates with a long thin pupil has been underlined for applications in the field of high angular resolution observations by speckle-interferometric techniques. The SAT lies halfway between the Michelson stellar interferometer and the standard telescope with circular aperture. The authors present the principle of an image processing algorithm which could be used associated with a space-SAT for astronomical image reconstruction. A full coverage of the two dimensional Fourier plane of the astronomical object can be obtained by rotating the SAT around its optical axis. The method of image reconstruction is analogous to those used in computerized tomography and uses Fast Fourier Transform algorithm. The interest of the use of a rotating space-SAT among synthetic apertures is its capability of giving a reconstructed image of the astronomical object simultaneously in several light wavelengths, each colored image being comparable with the others for fruitful astrophysical applications.

The primary ground station will send the processed data to users via the satellite at a high and a low rate. Since these reduced scans can be completed in less time than a full Earth disk scan, reduced scans can provide imagery with a higher temporal resolution than that of the normal half-hourly full Earth disk scans. This mode of scanning is often referred to as reduced scanning or rapid scanning.
