Record 2 2010-07-21

English

Subject field(s)
  • Track and Field
CONT

The standing throw starts with the athlete balanced over the rear foot, the shot nestled under the chin and positioned behind the right foot ... From this position, the rotation begins with the right foot, proceeding upward through the knee and to the hips ... The rotation continues through the trunk to the shoulders as the release action begins.

CONT

The legs, followed by the trunk and then the throwing shoulder, should initiate the stand throw... Many throwers throw much farther in warm-ups with their stand throw than their full technique and then go on [to] use their full technique in the meet.

OBS

Technique/tactics - throwing events.

CONT

Preliminary Winds (Swings): The purpose of the two winds is to accelerate the hammerhead, and to prepare for the first turn.

CONT

She uses two preliminary swings (as do the majority of female and male hammer throwers). At the high point of the second swing there is an active turn of the upper body towards the hammer, to sweep the implement to the front.

CONT

I found that the preliminary winds that the athlete makes in the back of the throwing circle during the early part of the throw, as well as the single-foot support phases that occur later on during the full turns are very important for the result. This contradicted the widely held belief of coaches that these parts of the throw do not contribute much to the distance of the throw.

OBS

Not to be confused with the pendulum swing which precedes these overhead swings.

The auxiliary rudder throw limiter restricts rudder throw travel, when flaps are in the 0 and 5 degree detents, to 17 degrees each side of faired position. Full rudder travel is available when flaps are extended to 15 degrees and beyond. The auxiliary rudder throw limiter consists of a single-acting hydraulic cylinder, a retractable rudder stop assembly, two springs, a limiter arm which is splined to the rudder torque tube, a control valve operated by the flap control and followup system, a flap/rudder stop inoperative light located on the flight compartment annunciator panel, and switches located above the retractable rudder stop and adjacent to flap followup control drum.
