The term plasticulture refers to the practice of using plastic materials in agricultural applications. The plastic materials themselves are often and broadly referred to as "ag plastics. "Plasticulture ag plastics include soil fumigation film, irrigation drip tape/tubing, nursery pots and silage bags, but the term is most often used to describe all kinds of plastic plant/soil coverings. Such coverings range from plastic mulch film, row coverings, high and low tunnels(polytunnels), to plastic greenhouses. 1, record 1, English, - plasticulture

Canada's cold winters tend to minimize insect infestation but occasionally it occurs and fumigation is conducted under the Grain Commission's supervision. The most common treatment involves placing phostoxin tablets in the infested grain as it flows from conveyor belt to storage bin. The bin is sealed and the tablets emit a gas which kills the insects. After a few days the bin is reopened and Grain Commission inspectors inspect the grain to ensure a complete kill. 1, record 12, English, - phostoxin%20tablet

1, record 12, French, - comprim%C3%A9%20de%20phostoxin

Halide detectors are propane burners with a copper grid or ring in the flame. Air is drawn into the flame through a hose that can be directed to various areas under fumigation. If halide vapour, such as carbon tetrachloride or methyl bromide, contacts the hot copper ring, it reacts to form a blue-coloured copper halide. The intensity of this blue colour indicates the amount of gas present. This is a fairly sensitive method that registers the presence of a halide gas but does not indicate phosphine gas. 1, record 13, English, - halide%20detector

1, record 13, French, - halog%C3%A9nom%C3%A8tre

Replanted orchards or new plantings. The impact of pre-plant fumigation on nematode problems has been clearly documented : trees planted in fumigated areas grow faster, yield sooner, and yield more than do nonfumigated plantings. In replanted orchards, pre-plant fumigation also increases tree survival rates. Fumigating with a broad-spectrum chemical tends to produce an additional yield increase over those produced by a nematicide. 1, record 16, English, - fumigation%20test

1, record 19, French, - panache%20pi%C3%A9g%C3%A9

A well developed circulation can penetrate as far as 50 km inland. During sea breeze situations an interesting air pollution problem arises. This will be illustrated using the north shore of Lake Ontario as an example. Several thermal generating stations are opened near the coast. During a sea breeze situation..., their emissions are adverted inland relatively undispersed in stable air. Eventually the well-mixed layer whose thickness increases inland intercepts the plume and brings it to the ground. The result is stationary fumigation which persists much longer than the event-type of fumigation that occurs in late morning during the breakup of a nocturnal inversion. 1, record 20, English, - stationary%20fumigation
