The main differences between a military bugle and a posthorn are their shape and purpose. Coiled in a circle like miniature horn..., the posthorn literally gets its name from its association with the postal service... Posthorns signaled the arrival of mail coaches to secure "unhindered and speedy attention, "... They were also used to alert travelers to road conditions, to alert toll keepers of express mail coaches that required free passage, and to notify innkeepers of passengers in need of lodging. In addition to its primary signal function, the posthorn was used to perform melodies.... To serve this more melodic function, some posthorns were fitted with a single vent hole as well as keys and later, valves. 3, record 1, English, - post%20horn

Motor nerves in the peripheral nervous system carry information from the brain to the body. Scientists came up with the name "motor" because the first motor nerves studied were those that help with muscle movement, or what scientists call motor function. It was later discovered that motor nerves have other purposes in addition to making muscles move. They also send messages from the brain and the spinal cord to body organs. For example, motor nerves help the process of digestion by stimulating cells in the stomach to break down food chemically. 2, record 2, English, - motor%20nerve

Changes in responsibilities continued through the late 1960s. In 1969, as recommended by the Glassco Commission, the position of Comptroller of the Treasury was abolished and departments took responsibility for certifying and authorizing expenditures. The Comptroller's office became part of the Department of Supply and Services. This function remained in PWGSC [Public Works and Government Services Canada] as the Receiver General of Canada. In 1978 as part of the government's response to the Auditor General' s Report, a new Office of the Comptroller General was established. While similar in name to the former Comptroller of the Treasury the function was different. The Comptroller General reported to the Treasury Board on financial management program evaluation and internal audit in government departments. As part of this reorganization [in 1993, ] the Office of the Comptroller General of Canada which had existed as a distinct organization separate from the Treasury Board Secretariat since 1978 was amalgamated with the Secretariat and the title and responsibilities for both were delegated to a single individual –Secretary of the Treasury Board and Comptroller General of Canada. In June 2004, following the appointment of the new Comptroller General, a new Office of the Comptroller General(OCG) was established as a distinct organization in TBS [Treasury Board Secretariat]. Consistent with the focus on sound financial management in the OCG, other responsibilities that were under the former Comptrollership Branch now fall elsewhere in the Secretariat. 2, record 7, English, - Comptroller%20General%20of%20Canada

The Human Resources Council(HRC) was founded in 1992 as the Personnel Renewal Council(PRC), to be a strong voice for Heads of Human Resources and the HR community on issues affecting the strategic direction of HR management in the Public Service. The PRC changed its name to the Human Resources Council in November 1998. The HRC will continue to strengthen its current role as an independent strategic advisor. Specifically, the HRC will work to influence the direction of, and provide support to, the Central Agencies on the development of HR policy and the development of the HR Community on major issues of concern. In fulfilling this role, the HRC will identify HR management's needs and the operational impact of Central Agency HR policy initiatives and approaches on service delivery to Canadians and on the delivery of HR services within departments, agencies and separate employers, including advising Central Agencies whenever capacity issues need to be addressed or taken into account. The HRC will selectively address key elements of the HR framework and key strategic issues affecting the HR function, in accordance with the HRC vision and strategic agenda, which it will set annually in partnership with Central Agencies. The HRC will act as a driver and influencer. 1, record 17, English, - Human%20Resources%20Council

Standard Branching. Truly general-purpose industrial robot systems must have some way of selecting or altering the programmed path and function based on changes in the environment around them. The name given to such a facility may vary, but the purpose is the same. The robot reaches some point and interrogates an input signal to determine whether it is electrically active, or the robot is interrupted by activation of another input signal. In either case, the robot path "branches" to a section of the path/function program; if no signal is present at this decision point, or no interrupt occurs, the robot continues in a normal path sequence. 1, record 24, English, - standard%20branching

In rigid part assembly, a passive support device that aids part insertion operations. The RCC can be used with assembly robots as well as with traditional assembly machines and fixed single-axis workstations. The main feature of the RCC is its ability to project its compliance center outside itself, hence the source of its particular abilities to aid assembly and the reason for the word remote in its name. Its major function is to act as a multi-axis "float", allowing positional and angular misalignments between parts to be accommodated. The RCC allows a gripped part to rotate about its tip or to translate without rotating when pushed laterally at its tip. It enables successful mating between two parts, a tool and a part, a part and a fixture, a tool and a tool holder, and many other mating pairs. 1, record 25, English, - remote%20center%20compliance%20device

... for each x, the existence of a y is postulated such that G(y, x). However how to find this y for a given x is generally not explicitly described. The existence of y is a priori quite non-procedural, and the same x may give a different y at different times. However a unique function f may be postulated such that for each x a unique y greater than x is computed. It is not necessary to give this function any interpretation, just a name f(x). Thus the operator and the y variable are no longer needed.... Such a function is called a Skolem function after Norwegian logician Thoralf Skolem who proved that the validity of the formula was preserved by this simplification. 3, record 30, English, - Skolem%20function

To describe operators and actions, we first have to give them names. In what follows, we use the ternary function symbol M to designate the move operator, we use the binary function symbol U to designate the unstack operator, we use the binary function symbol S to designate the stack operator, and we use the constant Noop to designate the null action. With this vocabulary, we can name individual actions. For example, the term M(C, A, B) designates the action of moving block c from a to b.
