Prairie dogs strongly alter ecosystem structure and function of Great Plans and some southern intermountain landscapes by creating disturbed vegetation and soil patches. Through an intermediate disturbance regime, prairie dogs modify and underpin the distribution and abundance of threatened and sensitive plants and invertebrates, as well as over 160 vertebrate species, including the mountain plover, ferrouginous hawk, swift fox, and highly endangered blackfooted ferret. 2, record 2, English, - disturbed%20vegetation

The distinction between the transient and permanent regime is essential : in particular, the "steady-state regime" must be understood as the regime that is reached asymptotically, long after transients have decayed(long time limit). Permanent regime can be simple, i. e., time-independent, time-periodic, or more complicated, i. e., quasi-periodic or even chaotic. The fundamental theoretical problem is then to "predict" the characteristics of the permanent regime reached by a given system as a function of available initial conditions and control parameters. 1, record 3, English, - permanent%20regime

1, record 3, French, - r%C3%A9gime%20permanent

At a given stage of the cascade of bifurcations the set of frequencies... can be determined, at least in principle, but the set of phases... remains a function of initial conditions and, as such, completely out of control. Turbulence is then the regime reached after an infinite number of such oscillatory bifurcations. 1, record 4, English, - cascade%20of%20bifurcation

2, record 4, French, - cascade%20de%20bifurcations
