CONT

Nonconductive wood(NCW) is wood tissue that has been compartmentalized as part of the natural tree response to wounds(including tapping). It is no longer functional for water transport or metabolic functions, or viable for sap collection and therefore should be avoided when tapping. NCW is typically discolored(stained) relative to conductive sapwood.

Toronto's George R. Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art is presenting an exclusive collection of contemporary ceramic works by twenty Canadian artists from ten provinces/territories across Canada on themes of "Environment" and "Cultural Diversity". The pieces are chosen for their innovative and technical virtuosity and explore the functional, conceptual and decorative nature of ceramic art while reflecting Canada's ethnic, geographic and cultural diversity.

DEF

Collection of unique capital assets which form an identifiable functional unit. The component unique assets need not have the same estimated useful life. In the case of buildings, however, PWGSC [Public Works and Government Services Canada] will apply the whole asset method and value a building as one unique asset or composite asset with a single estimated useful life.

DEF

CONT

Magnetic bubble memory testers are used to examine bubble memory systems. Testers vary from unit to unit and in their ability to test memory devices of various capacities. Units can accommodate different memory architectures including serial, major/minor loop, block replicate, and even/odd configurations. They may offer capabilities for diagnostics testing(which isolates and defines design problems), device evaluation testing, and parallel functional testing. A computer may provide the central control and data collection functions for the magnetic bubble memory tester. The purpose of the loop status memory is to maintain a bit map of defective minor loops as they occur so that bubbles will be written into bad loops in later operations. This technique of maintaining minor loop status reduces test times.

cell : Basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms. It is a complex collection of molecules with many different activities that are integrated to form a functional unit.

CONT

The use of growing cells in suspension as biocatalysts is generally termed fermentation. Such processes may be distinguished as batch, fed batch or continuous depending on the kinetic relationship between addition of substrate and harvesting of product. Non-growing systems include the use of suspensions, cells retained within a semipermeable membrane, or cells immobilized in or on a solid support. Such immobilized cells may be used in a fixed bed, expanded bed, fluid bed or fully mixed system. ... Although many so-called fermentation reactions are carried out under aerobic conditions, these are of little interest in the present context since, when oxygen is used as the terminal electron acceptor, the production of low molecular weight metabolites of the type required is restricted and a high proportion of the carbon in the feedstock is converted into cell biomass.
