Gene expression microarrays provide a snapshot of all the transcriptional activity in a biological sample. Unlike most traditional molecular biology tools, which generally allow the study of a single gene or a small set of genes, microarrays facilitate the discovery of totally novel and unexpected functional roles of genes. The power of these tools has been applied to a range of applications, including discovering novel disease subtypes, developing new diagnostic tools, and identifying underlying mechanisms of disease or drug response. 2, record 2, English, - gene%20expression%20microarray

In recent years studies of enzyme conformational changes have become highly sophisticated. By a variety of physical techniques they have revealed the great complexity of response of enzymes to small molecules.... One method uses ultrasonics to study the pH induced conformational transition in the active centers of the enzymes. The method utilizes the observation that ultrasonic cavitation produces hydroxyl and hydroperoxyl free radicals in water solution. Penetration of these radicals into the enzyme active center results in enzyme inactivation due to destruction of certain functional groups important for the catalytic activity, typically tryptophan residues.... Thus, a kinetic study of the enzyme ultrasonic inactivation allows us to determine the parameters associated with the conformational changes in the enzyme active center. 2, record 4, English, - conformational%20transition

At the top level, they find the functional model described earlier. This functional model is based on an aggregate model, which deals with the behaviours of groups of similar particles forming entities like a gas or a liquid. Finally, the behavior of these aggregate entities can be explained in terms of an underlying model. This study emphasizes the hierarchical relations between models. Like scripts with subscripts, models support one another in a "reductionistic" fashion where some relations in one model can be explained in terms of another, lower-level model. 2, record 17, English, - aggregate%20model
