The concept of due process is rooted in English common law and expressed in "Magna Carta", Art. 39 (1215), whereby the King promised that ’No freeman shall be taken or imprisoned or disseised or exiled or in any way destroyed ... except by the legal judgment of his peers or by the law of the land’. This was later interpreted to require trial by jury. 4, record 1, English, - due%20process%20of%20law
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
"Due process" is an imprecise and elastic term, the meaning of which varies with time and place. Basically, it suggests fundamental fairness and tries to apply that concept to all parts of the criminal process. The breadth of the concept depends upon the subjective view of the American courts, particularly the United States Supreme Court. In the last twenty years "due process" has included protections against self-incrimination, coerced confessions, illegal searches, denial of counsel or jury trial and unregulated eavesdropping. In the American system a judicial finding that law enforcement officials have offended due process will result in a complete exclusion of the impugned evidence and will usually result in the acquittal of the accused. 5, record 1, English, - due%20process%20of%20law

Conceptually, the definition of systemic change is... consistent with the roots of the term in political activism, from civil rights to universal suffrage : Systemic change means that change has to be fundamental and affects how the whole system functions. It's about changes that spread and behaviours that become a new normal, rather than benefits remaining confined to a narrow group. This way, scarce aid resources can be leveraged to stimulate more inclusive growth across whole sectors; not just narrow segments. 2, record 2, English, - systemic%20change

It is a term of art used to define the time when the secured party has obtained the greatest bundle of rights under the statute with respect to the collateral. These rights are manifest in the Act in the form of priority rules concerning competing claims in the same collateral.(Richard H. Stealth technology has as its fundamental principle the prevention of detection by the enemy, and applies not only to aircraft as is commonly assumed, but also increasingly to naval vessels and to armoured vehicles, although in the latter cases, it is nascent technology upon which comment must be reserved. Stealth technology, therefore, does not simply mean the evasion by aircraft of radar through the reduction of radar signature. It also encompasses the reduction of an aircraft's visibility in other spectra, most notably acoustic, visual, and infra-red. Consequently the popular term "stealth technology" would perhaps be better referred to as "low-observable technology. " 2, record 17, English, - stealth%20technology

Accountability out is something different. It was defined in our Round Table as the sense of responsibility that one feels to the law, or to one's sense of personal or professional ethics. Accountability in this sense is a check on behaviour that is imposed either externally(i. e., through obligations flowing from laws or regulations) or internally(i. e, through a sense of personal obligation to abide by a self-imposed standard of conduct). This sense of accountability, if that is not stretching the term too far, is also familiar to anyone who works within an institutional framework and, indeed, is fundamental to any broader account of law and morality. 1, record 23, English, - accountability%20out
