Transport Canada is committed to reducing the number of injuries and fatalities that occur every year at Canada's railway grade crossings. To this end, the department works closely with railway companies to identify grade crossings that require safety improvements. Through this program, the department funds up to 80% of safety enhancement costs at approximately 80-100 sites across the country, an annual investment of up to $7. 5 million.

In February 1994, the federal government announced the closure of several bases across Canada and established development funds to mitigate the impact of base closures on local economies. $7. 5 million was committed to the creation of an economic development fund for the area affected by the Cornwallis military complex. In July 1994, the Cornwallis Park Development Agency(CPDA) was incorporated.

The Climate Change Action Fund-Public Education and Outreach Program(CCAF-PEO) funds a variety of initiatives, including Internet sites, museum displays, classroom materials, etc., to raise Canadians’ awareness of climate change and promote action in each province and territory. The CCAF-PEO program establishes a solid base for climate change awareness and action. The Fund establishes an integrated investment approach that focuses on partnerships and government leadership for action.
