Weighing gauges are most useful in areas with frequent snow, since they measure any form of precipitation simply by weighing on a balance whatever falls into a pail. The downward motion of the pail as it fills with precipitation is transmitted to a recording chart on a clock-turned drum. Many of these gauges are equipped with a funnel which can be removed to permit the snow to fall directly into the pail. If accuracy of the snowfall measurements is important, the gauge should, of course, be shielded. 5, record 3, English, - weighing%20rain%20gauge
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The two types of automatic rain gages used in the County are weighing buckets and tipping buckets. Most of the rainfall records in the County are collected with weighing bucket gages. A weighing bucket consists of a collection bucket for receiving and storing the precipitation, a weighing device for measurement, and an indicating dial to display, in inches, precipitation gathered by the collector. The weighing bucket mechanically converts the depth of accumulated precipitation during a given period (5 or 15 minutes), to a code disk position. This code disk position is recorded on punched paper tape at the selected intervals. 8, record 3, English, - weighing%20rain%20gauge

Pluviographes [...] 5, record 3, French, - pluviographe%20%C3%A0%20pes%C3%A9e

Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The supercell tornado is the most common and most violent type of tornado. These storms are formed from the rotating supercell thunderstorm, due to a clockwise change in wind direction with height. This changing of the wind direction with height causes horizontal tubes of spinning air to form. A thunderstorm updraft tilts the horizontally spinning tube of air into the vertical and stretches it out forming a small area of low pressure called a "Meso Low" which enhances the low level winds which ultimately leads to the formation of a tornado. Supercell tornadoes can exist for up to six hours, grow to diameters greater than a mile, and produce winds up to 300 mph. The visible funnel cloud forms because of the significant air pressure drop in the region of the meso low and tornado. The lower air pressure allows water vapor to condense into cloud droplets at a lower altitude, forming a cloud around the spinning funnel of air. In areas of the country, such as Colorado, where low level moisture may be lacking, a tornado may occur with no visible funnel cloud at all. 3, record 4, English, - supercell%20tornado

Record number: 4, Textual support number: 2 CONT
3, record 4, French, - tornade%20supercellulaire
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 3 CONT
2, record 4, French, - tornade%20supercellulaire

There are two basic types of vacuum-filling systems. In one type the container is evacuated and the product flows through an orifice into the container.... In another form of vacuum-filling system, the product is filled into a rotating pocket that has been evacuated.... The pocket is mounted on a wheel that moves in a vertical plane. The vacuum holds the product in the pocket and discharges it to a container or funnel that moves below the wheel. The volume is adjusted by varying the telescoping pocket depth. 1, record 5, English, - vacuum%2Dfilled%20pocket%20filler

The speed and altitude regimes of these vehicles are bounded by physical and practical limits. At a given altitude, dynamic pressure limitations set maximum and minimum speeds; the minimum is what it takes to lift the vehicle, and the maximum is what the structure can be built to stand. The limits form a hypersonic funnel, a band of increasing Mach and increasing altitude within which lies the optimum cruising envelope for each vehicle. 1, record 6, English, - hypersonic%20funnel
