Inshot burners have become the dominant burner in North American residential gas furnaces, according to the American Gas Association. The burners have a single port, and fire into a pipelike heat exchanger. They differ markedly from older designs that had multiple burner ports with two-part heat exchangers, known as clamshells. Inshot burners have resulted in smaller furnace cabinets, a handy feature when remodeling a basement. 4, record 1, English, - inshot%20burner

Modern furnaces make use of four different types of main gas burners. These burners are: 1) drilled port; 2) slotted port; 3) ribbon; 4) inshot. ... usually the drilled pot burner is made of cast iron. The others are made by forming steel into the desired shape. ... The burner head is the top part of the burner. It is here that the ports are placed that determine the type of burners (drilled port, slotted port, ribbon, or inshot). ... The burners parts are openings that release the gas and air mixture into the combustion chamber. 5, record 1, English, - inshot%20burner

Oil furnace operations have not changed very much. On a call for heat from the thermostat, the burner motor will start. Oil is now pumped to the nozzle, and the ignition transformer is energized. The nozzle is designed to spray the oil into the fire tube as a fine mist. The ignition transformer is designed to create an electrical arc across the electrodes. As the oil mist(also mixed with air) comes in contact with the arc, ignition takes place, and the fire is started. 2, record 2, English, - call%20for%20heat

Burner controller: The controller is usually located in front of the burner. On a call for heat the controller starts a sequence of events that ensure safe operation before the burner is allowed to start. The controller continues to monitor burner operation while the boiler is running. If for any reason the controller senses an unsafe operating condition it will shut the burner off. Pushing the manual reset on the controller will often restart the boiler. 3, record 2, English, - call%20for%20heat

The boilers are fed wood fuel from the main fuel bin located adjacent to the boiler house. The boilers are the "pile burner" type, which burn wood in a large pile on the floor of a refractory lined furnace box. Combustion efficiency with this type of boiler is generally low but pile burners are simple and therefore relatively inexpensive. Low combustion efficiency also means that emissions such as particulates and carbon monoxide are relatively high. One notable advantage to these systems is that high moisture content fuels can be burned as well as "dirty" fuels containing debris. 3, record 6, English, - pile%20burner
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Pile burner: Boilers incorporating a pile burning design find applications where the anticipated wood fuel has a high (up to 65%) relative moisture content, as is found in whole green tree chips, bark, and green mill residue. Grates serve to support the fuel, and underfire air flowing up through the grates provides oxygen for combustion, cools the grates, promotes turbulence in the fuel bed, and dries the fuel. The most common form of pile burning is the Dutch oven, which was used almost exclusively during the early part of the century (Guinn and Turner 1990). 4, record 6, English, - pile%20burner

Mechanical atomizers are available in sizes up to 180 million Btu/hr input, about 10, 000 lb of oil per hr. The acceptable operating range may be as much as ten to one or as little as three to one, depending on the maximum oil pressure used for the system, the furnace configuration, air temperature, and burner throat velocity. Return flow atomizers are ideally suited for standard grades of fuel oil where it is desired to meet load variations without changing sprayer plates or cutting burners in and out of service. 4, record 8, English, - mechanical%20atomizer

This fibre optic viewing head extension is particularly useful for solving the sighting problems associated with tilting or movable burners. The flame envelope from this type of burner can be tilted from a horizontal position up or down as much as 30 degrees. It would be impossible to follow this flame pattern with a fixed sighting through the wind-box. Welding the tip guide(lens end) of this viewing head extension to the movable air compartment nozzle solves this problem. This viewing head extension can also be used for those applications where it is impossible to find a clear unobstructed view of the flame using a standard sight pipe. Here again the viewing head extension is mounted inside the furnace for a clear unobstructed view of the flame. 4, record 12, English, - sighting%20pipe

The operating principal of the RMB [Rapid Mix Burner] staged firing configuration is to bum as much of the fuel as possible under the high excess air, ultralow NOx conditions. As a result of the fundamental principle mentioned above, this is done by operating the burners air rich(under conditions similar to normal firing, but with higher excess air and with a moderate amount of FGR), where the maximum theoretical NOx, formation is very predictable. Heat is extracted from these air-rich combustion products and cool furnace recirculation products are entrained. The staged fuel is then mixed with the air-rich burner products and combustion is completed. The excess air at the boiler outlet is thus similar to that with normal firing. 3, record 16, English, - air%20rich

Air Atomizing Oil Burners. Except for the nozzle, this burner is similar in construction to the pressure atomizing burner. Atomizing air and oil are supplied to individual parts within the nozzle. The nozzle design allows the oil to break up into small droplet form as a result of the shear forces created by the atomizing air. The atomized oil is carried from the nozzle through the outlet orifice by the air flow into the furnace. 2, record 24, English, - air%2Datomizing%20oil%20burner
