When foveal detachment occurs in eyes with MF [myopic foveoschisis], surgery is necessary to prevent further deterioration. Vitrectomy and complete ILM peeling have been suggested to flatten the retina, but postoperative MH [macular holes] has been reported to occur in approximately 20% of cases. ILM peeling removes the Müller cone cells, which form the base of the fovea and serve as a plug that binds the photoreceptor cells in the foveola and supports the foveola structurally. The stretched retina in a highly myopic eye can easily induce a MH without this structure. To prevent postoperative MH, fovea-sparing ILM peeling was introduced. Studies have shown that this technique can prevent MH formation very effectively. A piece of ILM is preserved in the center of fovea to prevent damage to the Müller cone cells during surgery... 3, record 2, English, - fovea%2Dsparing%20internal%20limiting%20membrane%20peeling

[The authors] define modality as the distinct sensory channels or modes through which humans(or machines) perceive and interact with the external environment. It involves the recognition and interpretation of stimuli by specific sensory organs or technical sensors, which enable the detection and processing of sensory information. Stimuli represent the external events, patterns, or objects that trigger sensory experiences... These stimuli activate the corresponding sensors, initiating the conversion of sensory information into digital or neural signals that are further processed in our nervous system or within the circuits of a computer. 2, record 3, English, - modality

Modality refers to how things are experienced in terms of sensory inputs as sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste. There are devices like cameras, haptic sensors, microphones etc. which directly correspond to human senses for the computational world. There are devices like motion sensors, keyboards, and physiological sensors that are indirect. Some researchers define modality as how information is represented and communicated between people, such as gesture, speech, written language, gaze, etc. 3, record 3, English, - modality

ATOS is the least common form of TOS [thoracic outlet syndrome]... However, of the TOS subtypes, ATOS has the greatest potential for serious complications, and therefore surgical intervention is promptly warranted in patients demonstrating arterial compression. Thoracic outlet compression on the subclavian artery(SCA) can cause poststenotic dilation, leading to aneurysm formation, which can result in distal thromboembolism and further ischemic complications. Embolization to the arm or hand is common in patients with ATOS, usually causing discoloration of the affected upper extremity.... Patients can present in several ways, but all have in common an abnormality at the SCA usually combined with a bony abnormality. 4, record 5, English, - arterial%20thoracic%20outlet%20syndrome

The key idea in explaining the way in which structures evolve in the universe is gravitational instability. If material is to be brought together to form structures then a long-range force is required, and gravity is the only known possibility.... Suppose that at some initial time, say decoupling, there are small irregularities in the distribution of matter. Those regions with more matter will exert a greater gravitational force on their neighbouring regions, and hence tend to draw surrounding material in. This extra material makes them even denser than before, increasing their gravitational attraction and further enhancing their pull on their neighbours... 2, record 7, English, - gravitational%20instability

Smart eyewear is defined as eyewear incorporating a near-to-eye display. As used herein, near-to-eye display means a display, device, or system, such as a retinal projector, virtual retinal display, visualization element, head-mounted display, heads-up display, or other near-to-eye system, typically worn on the head of a user that generates an image near the eye. In a smart eyewear configuration, a display device is often mounted adjacent to an edge of each of the wearer’s eyes and an image is typically displayed in the center of each lens. The location of the displayed image, therefore, forces the wearer to gaze in a direction to view the image generated by the display. Typically positioned near the user’s eye, the display is aligned to the central region of the user’s field of view to allow review of the displayed information with little or no head movement. This enables the user to view the display while also viewing the area outside the central region and interacting with the surrounding environment. In another embodiment, the displayed image is aligned to a region other than the central region of the user’s field of view. 5, record 8, English, - near%2Dto%2Deye%20display
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Near-eye display devices are configured to present images to a user via a display that is positioned close to the user’s eyes. For example, a head-mounted augmented reality display device may be worn on a user’s head to position a near-eye display directly in front of a user’s eyes. A near-eye display may be at least partially see-through to allow a user to view a real-world background in combination with displayed virtual objects. This may allow virtual objects to be displayed such that the virtual objects appear to exist within the real-world environment. 6, record 8, English, - near%2Dto%2Deye%20display

The adverse consequences of romantic rejection are illustrated by Novak v. Waterfront Comm’n [Commission] of N. Y. [New York] Harbor. The plaintiff, Shanti Novak, was a detective with the Waterfront Commission of N. Y. Harbor. She became romantically involved with Scott Politano at a time when both held the same rank, in different locations. Eventually the two became live-in partners, and during this time, Politano was promoted to Lieutenant and was transferred to Novak's office, consequently becoming her supervisor. Novak terminated her relationship with Politano shortly thereafter. After her breakup with Politano, Novak was singled out for unfavorable treatment even after Politano was replaced as Novak's supervisor. Novak was given unfavorable work and shift assignments; was subjected to heightened scrutiny with respect to her work and her requests for overtime pay and sick leave; was the only detective not to receive further formal detective training; was excluded from an email regarding a shooting range schedule; and was the only detective to whom newly hired detectives were not assigned, which was both humiliating and deprived her of the opportunity to learn from the new assignees, who were seasoned detectives from other agencies. The situation became worse after she complained to the human resources department. 2, record 12, English, - live%2Din%20partner

Less visible on the modern landscape is production [of salt] by evaporation of brine in pots over fires, a technique that leaves "briquetage. "This is a term that archaeologists use worldwide to describe the broken pots used for evaporating brine over fires.... At Sacapulas, brine collected from a spring is poured through salty soil in large containers with holes in the bottom to enrich the salt content of the brine. The enriched brine is then poured into a couple of dozen open bowls elevated above a slow fire on a table inside a building. By continuously pouring brine into the bowls, the water slowly evaporates, and loose salt fills the bowls; the salt is then transferred into a large jar. Sometimes salt is further heated to form solid cakes, in which case the bowls must be broken to extract the salt cakes. 3, record 31, English, - salt%20cake

The [Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation] selected five indicators for the SII [social inclusion index] dwelling satisfaction, neighbourhood satisfaction, satisfaction with feeling part of the community, sense of safety and economic hardship. A single-factor SII structure based on these five selected items indicated a good fit of the model to the data. In other words, the findings suggested that dwelling and neighbourhood satisfaction, feeling part of the community, sense of safety, and economic hardship are related in a way that represents a common underlying construct, although the extent to which this construct measures social inclusion warrants further research. 1, record 33, English, - good%20fit%20of%20the%20model

1, record 33, French, - bonne%20ad%C3%A9quation%20du%20mod%C3%A8le

Barley is also used to produce barley malt. In this case the whole barley seed is steeped in water to allow the live germ to sprout... The sprouted barley is next dried under mild heat so as not to inactivate its enzymes. The sprouted dried barley, now known as malt, is used in the brewing industry to help digest starchy material into sugars for rapid yeast fermentation. The malt also has a distinctive flavor which contributes to the flavor of brewed beverages such as beer. Malt further adds flavor to breakfast cereals and malted-milk concentrates. Simpson’s Obstetrical Forceps ... Developed in 1848 by Dr. James Simpson of Edinburgh, these forceps were a combination of features from earlier models. He retained the finger rests and deep finger depressions in the handle and connected the forceps with a notched joint. 4, record 55, English, - Simpson%20forceps

James Young Simpson (1842) adapted the design of forceps to include a prominent pelvic curve with parallel shanks and an articulating lock. The space created with the divergence of the shanks allows for finger positioning and control of the molded head of the fetus. They have an elongated and flattened cephalic curve, which provides minimal trauma in traction, and are best suited to deliveries witout need of major rotation. 4, record 55, English, - Simpson%20forceps

The credit for the invention of the precursor of the modern forceps to be used on live infants goes to Peter Chamberlen of England(circa 1600). Modifications have led to more than 700 different types and shapes of forceps. In 1745, William Smellie described the accurate application to the occiput, rather than the previously performed pelvic application, regardless of the position of the head. In 1845, Sir James Simpson developed a forceps that was designed to appropriately fit both cephalic curvatures and pelvic curvatures. In 1920, Joseph DeLee further modified that instrument and advocated the prophylactic forceps delivery. In an era in which many women labored and delivered under heavy sedation, forceps deliveries became common.... When forceps deliveries are performed, Simpson forceps... is the instrument most commonly used for outlet-and low-forceps deliveries. 1, record 55, English, - Simpson%20forceps

Elliot forceps are used for the unmolded head while Simpsons forceps are used for the molded head. Specialized forceps include rotational forceps such as Kielland, Barton, and Piper forceps (for the after-coming head of a breech). 5, record 55, English, - Simpson%20forceps

When not in use, the reversers are held in the locked position by 13th stage air and a mechanical lock. Each engine throttle has an additional handle which is used to actuate the thrust reversers. The reverse thrust lever pivots about a point near to the top of the throttle. If reverse trust is required, the throttle must be retarded to closed and then the reverse thrust lever must be pulled up. Nearly all industrial welding involves fusion. The edges or surfaces to be welded are brought to the molten state. The liquid metal bridges the gap between the parts. After the source of welding heat has been removed, the liquid solidifies, thus joining or welding the parts together. In the past, there were three principal sources of heat for fusion welding: electric arc, electric resistance and flame. 3, record 64, English, - fusion%20welding

Diafiltration is an additional step in milk processing that is sometimes done to achieve a higher protein concentration. For many milk protein concentrates, the process begins and ends with ultrafiltration-without the addition of any diluent. Due to the fact that the milk protein concentrate is so thick after undergoing ultrafiltration, it has to be diluted to achieve a further level of protein concentration. At which point it is filtered a second time. This second filtration after the retentate of the ultrafiltration has been diluted is known as diafiltration. 1, record 91, English, - diafiltered%20milk
