The Federal Office of Regional Development(Quebec)(FORD-Q), the Biotechnology Research Institute(BRI) of the National Research Council(NRC), and the City of Montreal are today announcing a major investment, the first step toward the creation in Montreal of a research, development and demonstration centre, the first of its kind in Canada for the environmental technologies sector involved with industrial site remediation. This sector represents a market that is growing rapidly worldwide. The Montreal Centre of Excellence for Environmental Site Remediation fits perfectly into the concept of "technological platforms, "the approach favoured by Environment Canada to stimulate Metropolitan Montreal' s economy. Technological platforms make it possible to test environmental technologies and promote them to potential clients. This concept also contributes to furthering the economic growth of the environmental industry in the context of sustainable development. The Centre's mission will be to contribute to the development of effective and economical expertise in the area of restoring contaminated urban sites, which are a serious obstacle to economic development for cities in general and for Metropolitan Montreal in particular. It will also encourage the transfer of proven technologies to the private sector and the development of collaborative research projects and strategic alliances. 1, record 33, English, - Montreal%20Centre%20of%20Excellence%20for%20Environmental%20Site%20Remediation

1, record 33, French, - Centre%20d%27excellence%20en%20r%C3%A9habilitation%20de%20sites%20de%20Montr%C3%A9al

While certain characteristics of each consultant trust fund differ, in general terms the consultant trust funds are a means of furthering dialogue and collaboration between CIDA and the Multilateral Development Banks(MDBs) and exposing Canadian expertise to the MDBs. Overall administration and management of the consultant trust funds rests with the MDB itself based on guidelines to which it has agreed with CIDA. This includes identification of possible assignments, and selection and contracting of consultants. Rates of untying vary; the trust fund at the Asian Development Bank is completely untied, but the common rate of untying is to allow 25 percent of our contributions to be used to finance consultants from borrowing member countries or from donor countries who maintain similarly untied trust funds at the MDBs. 1, record 40, English, - Canadian%20Consultants%20Trust%20Funds

The Biotechnology Mammalian Tissue Culture facility has been conceived for research on cell and tissue culture. It will be essential in furthering our understanding of the influence of the cell microenvironment on growth and differentiation. The core of the system will provide robust control of concentration gradients and of mechanical forces thanks to the integration of fluid distribution tools, microsensors, and microactuators. The emphasis is put on the mimicking of organotypical conditions and on the acquisition of data to be used for guided tissue development and differentiation in both space and terrestrial conditions. In addition to this core cultivation subunit, a powerful diagnostics subunit allows for dedicated tools adapted to the tissue undergoing testing. The whole concept is modular in order to support upgrading and adaptation to the requirements of the experimental programme. 1, record 49, English, - biotechnology%20mammalian%20tissue%20culture%20facility

This coin was issued in accordance with an edict by Louis XIV, dated February 19, 1670, for the purpose of furthering the commercial transactions of the Compagnie des Indes. At that time, the sol had a value of about one penny. By a later edict, dated November 18, 1672, the current value of this piece was raised to 20 "sols" since it took twenty "sols" to make one pound. This silver 15-sol piece is now one of the rarest of Canadian coins. 1, record 59, English, - silver%2015%2Dsol%20piece

The Shell Fabric : Exterior is treated with a highly durable ultra thin coating which sheds water better than any known system. The woven fabric itself is a high count, double denier nylon, developed to withstand wind and rain. The interior is treated with Entrant's microporous waterproof, breathable composite. The insulation : A two layer, revolutionary laminate consisting of polyester, TEIJINCOMEX and wool. The first layer : Polyester and TEIJINCONEX; the TEIJINCOMEX, an aramid polyamide fiber with the supreme capabilities for heat retention while wicking and dispersing moisture; blended with polyester, supple enough to conform to the contour of the body while it creates dead air space.
