Symptoms of the Panama disease include yellowing of leaves, or premature collapse of leaves ... Examination of a cross section of a pseudostem and/or corm reveals a characteristic discolouration of the vascular bundles, usually stained purplish-brown ... Sometimes the leaf sheaths loosen and/or the pseudostem splits. A severely infected plant fails to flower, or if it does, the bunch fails to develop and fill up.

CONT

A biological fungicide developed from a naturally occurring bio control microbe.

OBS

When applied as a drench or spray the dried spores and mycelium of the Streptomyes culture in Mycostop germinate and begin to grow on and around the plant roots. In doing so they create a biological defense against root infecting pathogenic fungi which cause disease such as wilt and root rot.

OBS

Control or suppression of many root rot and wilt pathogenic fungi : Pythium, Fusarium, Alternaria, Phomopsis, Rhizoctonia, Phytophthora, Botrytis.

Plant breeding in flax was initiated by the Canada Department of Agriculture in the early 1900s.... Early breeding programs were directed towards increasing seed yield and improving oil quality, but the overriding objective was the development of varieties with resistance to Fusarium wilt and rust. Flax wilt was first recognized in Canada in the 1890s and with expansion of production had become a major problem in Western Canada in the early 1900s.
