CONT

A welding engineer is a type of materials engineer concerned with all aspects of welding that lead to the manufacture of a product. Welding is the process of using a combination of pressure and heat to fuse separate pieces of metal into one piece. These engineers may research more effective welding techniques or design more efficient equipment to aid in the welding process. They may also oversee manufacturing processes to ensure quality control or evaluate inspection procedures.

Circuit line in a PROM chip or similar device that is designed to be blown apart.

DEF

The material initially provided in a PROM that can be "blown" when the PROM is programmed.

CONT

Fuse PROM. A programmable read-only memory on which the programming is carried out either by blowing open microscopic fuse links to define a logic one or zero for each cell in the memory array, or by causing metal to short out base-emitter transistor junctions to program the ones or zeros into the memory.

Subject field(s)
  • Welding and Soldering (Metals)
DEF

To join metals by utilizing the effect of an arc created between the welding rod, which serves as an electrode, and a metal object. The arc is a discharge of electric current across an air gap. The high temperature generated by the arc melts both the electrode and the metal, permitting the molten metal to fuse.
