Hemifusomes consist of two vesicles, which are membrane sacs filled with liquid and formed by hemifusion, meaning that the smaller of the two is fused to the larger one like a hemisphere, almost as if its other half is missing. This occurs when the outer layers of two membranes merge first while the inner membrane layers stay open until a thin connection between them forms a new vesicle. The attached vesicles are sometimes found on the outside of the organelle and sometimes on the inside, and though where exactly these vesicles originate is still unknown, hemifusomes are thought to facilitate the formation of new vesicles that transport materials throughout the cell. This is probably how they take out cellular trash.

Cet article présente les résultats préliminaires obtenus avec un ICP-MS de haute résolution, à double système de focalisation et secteur magnétique (HR-ICP-MS) couplé à un laser ultra-violet (LA) dans le cadre d'analyses totales de matériaux géologiques fondus avec Li2B4O7.

Il existe plusieurs types de spectromètres de masse à plasma inductif, selon les analyseurs (secteur magnétique ou quadripole). En bref, un spectromètre se compose de trois parties : une source (torche à plasma, ICP); un analyseur (séparateur magnétique, quadripole ou hexapole); un détecteur (collecteurs simples ou multiples). Les expressions qui suivent servent à désigner deux nouvelles générations d'ICP-MS : le MC-ICP-MS (spectromètre de masse à plasma inductif et multicollection, où de multiples détecteurs sont utilisés dans différentes combinaisons, et le HR-ICP-SM (spectromètre de masse à plasma inductif à haute résolution, qui présente une amélioration au niveau de la source). Raytheon's IMS [Integrated Maritime Surveillance] uses land-based long-range surface wave radar, which transmits high frequency(HF) radio waves that follow the earth's curvature. The SWR-503 Surface Wave Radar detects and tracks aircraft, surface vessels and icebergs out to 500 km from the shore in a sector of up to 120 degrees. The radar also provides current and surface wind data. At an Operations Control Centre, the IMS system correlates detections from surface wave radar sites with identification information from ADS systems and other sensors. All of this data is fused to create a database and display system providing a complete picture of surface and air activity in the EEZ. Vessel tracks can be run backward and forward in time, enhancing military patrols and coast guard search-and-rescue efforts as well as oil spill control, drug interdiction, and iceberg alerts. Applications for HF Surface Wave Radar are being developed in fields such as Theatre Ballistic Missile and Meteor Shower Detection.
