In the fall of 1993, the Institute began operation with the mandate to ’document, preserve and promote the practice of Gwich’in culture, language, traditional knowledge and values. ’The objective of the Institute is to conduct research in the areas of culture, language and traditional knowledge so that this body of knowledge will be recorded and available for future generations and the development of programs appropriate for Gwich’in needs. A charitable remainder unitrust pays income based on a percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets as determined annually. Typically, the "CRUT" will be revalued every January 1st.
