A legacy payable at a future time, certain to arrive, and not subject to conditions precedent, is vested, where there is a person "in esse" at the testator's death capable of taking when the time arrives, though his interest may be altogether defeated by his own death.... Thus a legacy to one to be paid when he attains the age of twenty-one years is a vested legacy, because it is given unconditionally and absolutely, and therefore vests an immediate interest in the legatee, of which the enjoyment only is deferred or postponed.(Black's, 5th ed., 1979, p. 1402) 1, record 7, English, - vested%20legacy

A doctrine of estates which measured interests in land in terms of duration and recognized that interests could arise successively as segments of an ultimate estate in fee simple invited the working out of a law of future interests. It should be emphasized that the interest is an existing interest from the time of its creation, and is looked upon as a part of the total ownership of land or other thing which is its subject matter. Because enjoyment is postponed in a future interest, the interest is sometimes called an "estate in expectancy". This term is somewhat misleading in that it is applied both to future interests which are vested, and to contingent interests, or interests which are not vested.(Anger & Honsberger, 2nd ed., 1985, p. 336). 1, record 14, English, - estate%20in%20expectancy

Psychologist Mihaly Czikszentmihalyi(1990) has studied optimal or "autotelic" experiences-what he refers to as "flow experiences. "The word "autotelic' derives from two Greek words, ’auto’ meaning self, and ’telos’ meaning goal. It refers to a self-contained activity, one that is done not with the expectation of some future benefit, but simply because the doing itself is the reward, i. e., compelling mental focus. Czikszentmihalyi explains, "The autotelic experience, or flow, lifts the course of life to a different level. Alienation gives way to involvement, enjoyment replaces boredom, helplessness turns into a feeling of control, and psychic energy works to reinforce the sense of self, instead of being lost in the service of external goals". 1, record 20, English, - autotelic
