Given these findings, it remains questionable as to why older perpetrators are so often excluded from child-to-parent abuse research. It could be argued that examination of adult perpetrators falls within the realm of elder abuse. However, Stewart, Burns and Leonard conducted interviews with abused mothers and found that victimization by their adult children was salient to their accounts. It is for these reasons that future child-to-parent abuse research must include adult perpetrators.

This report outlines from Canadian subject matter experts(SMEs) on the current state of transportation ergonomics and its implication for future research directives in Canada. Provided in the report are a working definition of transportation ergonomics and a conceptual framework for the development of a strategic plan to prioritize areas where research should be focused. Information on transportation ergonomics was gathered through a review of TDC projects, national and international literature, and SMEs’ responses to a questionnaire. Issues were identified which affect the development and delivery of transportation systems within Canada. A four-point plan was developed as a framework for TDC to enhance the delivery of transportation ergonomics in Canada. Emphasis was placed on the emerging technologies of the future, and the effects they will have on the delivery of transportation and on the human's ability to work and travel in a safe, comfortable and efficient manner.

L'information sur l'ergonomie des transports provient de diverses sources : examen de projets parrainés par le CDT dans ce domaine, documentation canadienne et étrangère et réponses à un questionnaire soumis à un certain nombre d'experts. Certains facteurs susceptibles d'influer sur le développement et l'exploitation des systèmes de transport au Canada ont été identifiés. Les chercheurs ont élaboré un plan en quatre points qui permettrait au CDT de rehausser l'ergonomie des transports au Canada. Ils ont attaché une importance particulière aux technologies émergentes et à l'impact qu'elles ne manqueront pas d'avoir sur les systèmes de transport et sur la possibilité pour la population de travailler et de se déplacer de manière efficace, en toute sécurité et tout confort.

The Binary Colloidal Alloy Test-3 is an Exploration Systems’ transition flight experiment in the Human System Research and Technology area. BCAT-3 provides a unique opportunity to explore fundamental physics and simultaneously develop important future technology, including computers operating on light, complex biomolecular pharmaceuticals, clean sources of geothermal power, and novel rocket engines for interplanetary travel. These studies depend entirely on the microgravity environment provided by the International Space Station(ISS) ;in all other locations accessible to science, gravity dominates and precludes investigation of any other effects of interest. The experiment itself [consists of] photographing samples of colloidal particles with a digital camera onboard the ISS. Colloids are tiny nanoscale spheres of plexiglass a thousand times smaller than the width of a human hair(submicron radius) that are suspended in a fluid. They are ubiquitous(e. g., milk, smoke, and paint) and therefore interesting to study directly. Colloids are also small enough that they behave much like atoms and so can be used to model all sorts of phenomena because their size, shape, and interactions can be controlled. The 10 samples in BCAT-3 are made from the same ingredients, each a recipe with different proportions, and are grouped into three experiments : critical point, binary alloy, and surface crystallization. BCAT-3 is comprised of three separate experiments, which are individually referred to as a binary alloy (BCAT-3-BA), surface crystallization (BCAT-3-SC) and critical point (BCAT-3-CP). The critical point investigation is continuing with additional samples on future ISS [International Space Station] expeditions and will be referred to as Binary Colloidal Alloy Test - 4. BCAT-4 will consist of two sets of samples referred to as BCAT - 3 and 4: Critical Point (BCAT-3-4-CP) and BCAT-4:Polydisperse (BCAT-4-Poly). ... The Binary Colloidal Alloy Test-3 (BCAT-3) hardware supported three investigations in which ISS crews photographed samples of colloidal particles (tiny nanoscale spheres suspended in liquid) to document liquid/gas phase changes, growth of binary crystals, and the formation of colloidal crystals confined to a surface. Colloids are small enough that in a microgravity environment without sedimentation and convection, they behave much as atoms and so can be used to model all sorts of phenomena because their size, shape, and interactions can be controlled. The BCAT-3 payload consists of ten small samples of colloid alloys in which the microscopic colloid particles are mixed together into a liquid. These ten samples are contained within a small case that is the size of a school textbook. At the start of an experiment run, all ten samples are shaken to completely remix the colloid samples, much in the same way that salad dressing must be shaken to remix oil and vinegar. After the samples are mixed, what remains is periodically photographed using a digital camera until the colloid and liquid components of those samples have separated or the polymers have formed crystals. The samples can be remixed to repeat the experiment. The ten samples in BCAT-3 were selected as part of three separate experiments examining different physical processes: critical point, binary alloys, and surface crystallization.

A Project by the International Development Research Center(IDRC). "Quick access to medical information is essential for quality patient care, medical research, and monitoring health trends. But in many parts of the developing world, obtaining information has been difficult, if not impossible, due to poor communications infrastructure, economic conditions, or disasters. This information gap has been reduced thanks to a reliable, inexpensive health information system called HealthNet. Today HealthNet provides health-care professionals even in remote areas of the South with medical information that was previously unattainable. The network is active in more than 30 developing nations(including 22 African countries), with more countries scheduled to join in the near future. Partly funded by IDRC, HealthNet uses radio-and telephone-based computer networks and a low-earth-orbit satellite to transfer medical information from one part of the world to developing countries and vice versa.

The GPCC is now going to be operational, and it is operated by the DWD as a contribution to international climate observation and research activities. The GPCC has internationally defined functions. In the future, the GPCC will act as a GCOS [Global Climate Observing System] specified global data centre for precipitation, and in this role, it will continue to participate in the GPCP, as agreed by WCRP, GCOS, and DWD. It also co-operates with WCP-Water, Global Runoff Data Centre(GRDC), UNEP-GRID Programme, and FAO Water-Department.

The Toulouse Space Centre(CST) has become a unique technical and operational centre in terms of both its size and the scope of its activities. Working in partnership with French industry, the CST develops complete space systems right through to their operational commissioning(e. g. positioning the Arabsat series), contributes to instrument design and development, participates in science projects and leads research or application programmes such as Spot, Hélios, Télécom, Argos and Sarsat-Cospas on behalf of CNES or space users. [The] Intersecretariat Committee on Scientific Programmes Relating to Oceanography(ICSPRO)... was established in 1969, independent of the ACC, for the purpose of enlisting and coordinating interagency support for the scientific programmes of the IOC, which was established in 1960. Its mandate and membership is thus more limited than that of the ACC Subcommittee, with a focus on marine scientific research and support services. ICSPRO now meets for one or two days in connection with annual sessions of the ACC Subcommittee and currently its work is focused primarily on developing and coordinating contributions of UN agencies to the 1998 International Year of the Ocean(an initiative of UNESCO and proclaimed in 1994 by the General Assembly) and to "Expo ’98" in Lisbon, an international event entitled "The Oceans : A Heritage for the Future. "Its work thus does not overlap that of the Subcommittee. The members of ICSPRO are the UN(DOALOS), UNESCO(IOC), IMO, WMO, FAO and UNEP.
