The "buying hedge" protects against price increases. Suppose an exporter sells a cargo of grain for delivery in six months. If the exporter buys the grain upon receipt of the order, to ensure a supply at a known price, capital would be tied up and storage, insurance and interest costs incurred. If [he] waits until the delivery date to buy the grain, there is the risk of a price increase. However, by buying a contract in the futures market, [he] establishes the price and ensures a supply to meet his commitment, without paying holding costs other than those built into the price. 8, record 3, English, - buying%20hedge

1, record 3, French, - contrepartie%20d%27achat

Margins are monies deposited by customers with futures commission merchants to ensure performance on futures contracts held. The Winnipeg Commodity Exchange has established minimum levels of margins which futures commission merchants must require of their customers. These minimum levels vary with the commodity and with market conditions and usually range between 5% and 10% of the contract. 2, record 8, French, - transaction%20sur%20le%20march%C3%A9%20au%20comptant

A merchant who buys grain in the cash market can protect himself against possible price reductions by selling a futures contract for an equal volume of grain. For example, a primary elevator company which has bought grain from producers and paid cash for it, faces losses if the cash price falls before the grain can be shipped to a terminal and sold. But, by selling a futures contract, the primary elevator company can normally assure itself a price that will cover costs. This is known as a "selling hedge", and is designed to protect crops or inventories against price drops. 1, record 9, English, - selling%20hedge

1, record 9, French, - contrepartie%20de%20vente
