Cash and carry trading is done when the investor feels that the two securities are mispriced with respect to each other, and that the mispricing will correct itself such that the gain on one side of the trade will more than cancel out the loss on the other side of the trade. In the case of such a trade taking place on a security and the futures contract, the trade will be profitable if the purchase price plus the cost of carry is less than the futures price. 9, record 1, English, - cash%20and%20carry%20trading

The holders of short futures positions in the near contracts would be unable to fulfill their commitments to deliver and would need to buy back their futures contracts in order to erase their commitment. At the same time, those who had bought futures contracts, in order to protect the price of a sale, would tend to hold onto the position to ensure that they would receive supplies. The use of the futures contracts locks in a 98 cent copper price... It removes the possibility of windfall profits as the copper price declines. On balance, if you become convinced that the price will continue down, it is much easier to liquidate a futures position than to cancel a cash contract. If you later saw prices stabilizing you could reinstitute your hedges at the now lower price. 2, record 14, English, - futures%20position
