G-SUIT [7 records]

Record 1 2020-11-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Protective Clothing
DEF

An inflatable garment designed to apply pressure to the legs and the abdomen to retard the flow of blood to the lower body and to augment the return of blood thence to the thoracic cavity under conditions of "positive" (+Gz) acceleration.

CONT

A g-suit, also called an antigravity suit, is used to decrease the incidence of orthostatic intolerance in astronauts upon re-entry to Earth's atmosphere and upon landing.... The g-suit uses air-inflated sacs around the legs and abdomen to increase blood flow from the lower legs to the upper extremities.

Key term(s)
  • antigravity suit

French

Domaine(s)
  • Vêtements de protection
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Work Clothes
  • Aircraft Piloting and Navigation
CONT

The STiNG G-suit follows the concept of extended bladder coverage over the lower extremities for increased G-protection. The extended coverage provided by the STING suits works on the principle that increased bladder coverage will cause a larger increase in lower body tissue pressure versus older style, cut-away G-suits. It is believed that this will allow for better maintenance of HLBP [head-level blood pressure] under high +Gz and, therefore, increased G-tolerance.

OBS

STING: sustained tolerance to increased G.

Key term(s)
  • STING G suit
  • sustained tolerance to increased G suit

French

Domaine(s)
  • Vêtements de travail
  • Pilotage et navigation aérienne
CONT

The elevator was light enough to pull G without any effort, so that the G-suit very soon proved a great comfort. The legs inflated at 2. 5G and the stomach bladder at about 4G.

Even though the cockpits are fixed, the physical sensations associated with the manoeuvres are partly reproduced by the use of gravity seats. These combine small mechanical motions with pneumatic effects using a G-suit.
