The procedure is based on the principle that two digital radiographic images obtained under different time intervals, with the same projection geometry, are spatially and densitometrically aligned using specific software. When the two images are registered and intensities of corresponding pixels are subtracted of the gray scale values, a uniform difference image is produced, resulting in a new image representing the differences between the two, called the subtraction image. In this new image, if there is a change in the radiographic attenuation between the baseline and follow-up examination, all the anatomical structures that do not change between radiographs are shown as neutral gray background, while regions that had mineral loss or gain are shown as a darker or brighter area, respectively... 1, record 5, English, - digital%20subtraction%20radiography

Principal residence exemption — When a principal residence is sold, the gain is not taxable if it has been the person's principal residence for the whole time it has been owned. This is because the principal residence exemption eliminates the capital gain.... Canada Revenue Agency(CRA) usually considers that if there is more than 1/2 hectare(1. 25 acres) of property, only 1/2 hectare of the land can be considered part of the principal residence, and there would be a capital gain on the excess when the property is sold, even if the rest is the principal residence. 2, record 14, English, - principal%20residence%20exemption

Slight nuance between the English terms "rally" and "exchange". In a "rally", the ball must bounce; the term implies an "exchange" of groundstrokes. One can have an "exchange" of any type of shot, for instance, an exchange of volleys, where the ball never touches the ground. Moreover an "exchange" takes place between points; whereas a "rally" can take place between players simply wanting to hit a few balls without keeping score. In Spanish the term "intercambio" is generic. Therefore it means either "rally" or "exchange", depending on the context - "un intercambio de voleas de cerca, un intercambio de golpes de revés". Furthermore, one can use the term "exchange" in English when referring specifically to the length of a rally, i.e. the number of consecutive balls that pass over the net, as in the phrase "At Wimbledon, there were nary an exchange that exceeded 4 shots". 3, record 17, English, - rally

9, record 20, French, - %C3%A9quilibre

This system is being developed privately in response to marine shipping, safety and resource management requirements and it integrates the real time telemetering of modern tide gauges into the data network. A central system gathers the tidal data from numerous gauges via modems, and the user can gain access to this data via special COWLIS "Tideview" software operating on a PC. 4, record 21, English, - Coastal%20Ocean%20Water%20Level%20Information%20System

The anti-clutter sea control is often referred to as STC(Sensitivity Time Control) which decreases the amplification of the receiver immediately after a radar pulse is transmitted, and progressively increases the sensitivity as the range increases. A common mistake is to over adjust the A/C SEA control so that the surface clutter is completely removed. By rotating the control fully clockwise, you see how dangerous this can be; a dark zone is created near the center of the screen and close-in targets can be lost. This dark zone is even more dangerous if the gain has not been properly adjusted. Always leave a little surface clutter visible on the screen. If no surface clutter is observed(on very calm water), set the control at the fully counterclockwise position. 3, record 23, English, - anti%2Dclutter%20sea%20control

Recent media reports have painted a relentlessly gloomy picture of the status of AIDS drug development. Yet much useful information on treatment emerged at the 10th International Conference on AIDS in Yokohama, Japan(August 7-12, 1994). Encouraging treatment developments presented in Yokohama include the following : Recombinant human growth hormone therapy significantly increases weight gain as represented by fat-free lean body mass among people with AIDS-related wasting. AZT treatment dramatically reduces the rate of HIV transmission from mother to infant. Acyclovir co-treatment with anti-HIV therapy significantly increases survival time among people with AIDS. Oral ganciclovir appears to be an effective primary prophylaxis for cytomegalovirus disease. The protease inhibitor drug saquinavir reduces viral load and increases CD4 cell counts significantly more when used in a triple combination with AZT and ddC compared to 2 double combinations(AZT plus ddC or saquinavir plus AZT). Quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and branched chain DNA(bDNA) testing for measuring HIV load is expected to become a major new tool to help guide individual treatment decisions and to evaluate anti-HIV therapies in clinical studies. 1, record 30, English, - AIDS%20drug

Learning by doing works because it strikes at the heart of the basic memory processes that humans rely upon... We learn all this by doing, by constantly having new experiences and attempting to integrate those experiences into our existing memory structure. This process by which people fail and practice and fail and practice until they get it right works especially well when : 1) A system or process is new, and there's no available expertise with which to structure training. 2) There's time for people to learn on their own, and they can fail without any significant, negative consequences for the organization, and 3) A defacto apprenticeship process is in place to help people gain the job skills needed over time. 6, record 33, English, - apprenticeship%20learning

Coding ambiguity, which might also arise by other types of mutations(e. g., ribosomal), facilitates a codon's transition to a new meaning. Ambiguity allows time for selected changes in message sequences at the many sites where the new amino acid will be deleterious by providing for the production of partially active proteins during the transitional phase of codon reassignment. Accordingly, there need be no requirement that a codon entirely disappear before it can gain a new meaning, because the harm of inserting a novel amino acid is mitigated, and can also be rapidly minimized by selection of new mRNA sequences. 2, record 36, English, - ambiguity

Project Management Practice Standard-Section 3. 3. 5-Concept Design : in some instances, where projects are small or consist of engineered works(where preliminary studies have already been done), this sub-phase may be combined with 3. 3. 6 Design Development. However, where the project is large, complex or unique the Project Team may decide that it is more efficient and economical to discuss the merits of various design options, while the design is still in conceptual form. In the latter case, the objective of this sub-phase is to conceptually define the design concept and the class C cost estimate, and then to gain client and RPS approval prior to instructing the designers to develop a more refined design. Although the consultant and client may communicate directly, the Project Manager must manage the communication flow to control project commitments and to ensure that there is full understanding by both parties. This involves helping the client to analyze and to evaluate the consultant's enquiries, and then responding to the consultant in technical terms which satisfy specific design conditions. Once the consultant has fulfilled the requirement for submissions as specified in the Project Brief, and the client, the project team, the regulatory authorities and the RPS design authorities have accepted the final concept, the Project Manager ensures adequate documentation of these positions in a Conceptual Design Report. This report is formally signed off by all Project Team members. Thus, this sub-phase is completed when the Project Manager is convinced that the consultant has adequately addressed the needs of the client/owner within acceptable time, cost and quality parameters. Only then will the Project Manager allow the consultant to refine the concept in the Design Development phase. 2, record 38, English, - Conceptual%20Design%20Report

... hydrosulfite brightening.... The operation is usually carried out within the 4% to 8% consistency range to facilitate air-free mixing in economy-of-scale retention towers. A pH in the 5. 5-6. 5 range gives the best compromise between effective brightening and loss of chemical. Generally, a retention time of 1 to 2 hours at 60°C is recommended. If lower reaction temperature is used, the retention time should be increased. Chemical application is typically limited to 1% or less on pulp because higher applications provide only marginal brightness gain. 2, record 43, English, - hydrosulfite%20bleaching

1, record 43, French, - blanchiment%20%C3%A0%20l%27hydrosulfite

"Psychophagi"(Castler's term) are hardly ever encountered among them. Feeling the beginnings of osmosis, which may come about as the result of purely accidental approaches and fluctuations-feeling this threat in a manner that is of course nonphysical, much as someone might sense another's presence or even hear "strange voices" in his own mind-the personoids execute active avoidance maneuvers; they withdraw and go their separate ways. It is on account of this phenomenon that they have come to know the meaning of the concepts of "good" and "evil. "To them it is evident that "evil" lies in the destruction of another, and "good" in another's deliverance. At the same time, the "evil" of one may be the "good"(i. e., the gain, now in the nonethical sense) of another, who would become a "psychophage. " 1, record 44, English, - psychophage

1, record 44, French, - %C3%A2mophage
