There are two concepts used in the aerial delivery of short and long-term retardants... These are the "gallons of water per hour" and the "one strike" concepts.... The "gallons of water per hour" concept is used in areas where there are a number of lakes. It involves dropping quantities of water or other short-term retardants to hold the fires, with a minimum of time spent in hauling the loads.
