A competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches.

CONT

A double-elimination tournament may be used in 2-competitor games to allow each competitor a single loss without being eliminated from the tournament. All losers from the main bracket enter a losers’ bracket, the winner of which plays off against the main bracket’s winner.

As opposed to a "single-elimination tournament."

Tournoi double élimination. Sur ce type de tournois vous avez le droit à une défaite, donc si vous perdez, restez sur la table et vous aurez accès à un deuxième match, et si celui-ci est perdu, vous serez éliminés, et bien sûr tant que vous gagnez, vous continuez.

Si plusieurs tournois adoptent un système d'élimination simple ou double, il est difficile de retrouver la graphie correcte pour le signifier. On retrouve : «tournoi par élimination simple/double», l'apposition «tournoi élimination simple/double» ou le trait d'union «tournoi-élimination simple/double».
