GAMMA VARIABLE [2 records]

Record 1 2009-09-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
  • Mineralogy
DEF

Positron decay in matter by annihilation with an electron.

CONT

Discovery of cataclysmic variables... Verifying that an object is a cataclysmic variable is also fairly straightforward : they are usually quite blue objects, they exhibit rapid and strong variability, and they tend to emit in the ultraviolet and X-ray ranges; they are expected also to emit gamma rays, from annihilation of positrons from proton-rich nuclei produced in the fusion explosion...

OBS

Usually an "atom" of positronium (e+e-) forms which annihilates to produce two 511-keV photons. Occasionally, the positron will annihilate in flight to produce one or more photons sharing the total rest mass and kinetic energy of the positron and electron.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Telecommunications
CONT

The phase changing element is suitably a variable capacitance and may be incorporated into channel µ. One form of phase changing network takes the form of an RC circuit having an adjustable capacitor. The reaction channel ß then contains the temperature stabilized resonator circuit. In practice the resonator is preferably placed in the network y [gamma].

CONT

The peak/r.m.s. ratio of the signal should not exceed 3.5. This requirement may be achieved, in the case of a particular generator, by means of an associated phase-changing network.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Télécommunications
CONT
