We report the detection of an unusual high-energy transient by the gamma-ray burst detector onboard the satellite Ginga. The spectral properties of this event, which we refer to as a Medium Energy Burst(MEB900129), place it between those of Type IX-ray bursts and classical gamma-ray bursts. The event was much softer than classical gamma-ray bursts, with a spectrum that peaks between 16-18 keV, and decreases both above and below the peak. 3, record 1, English, - high%2Denergy%20transient

3, record 1, French, - ph%C3%A9nom%C3%A8ne%20transitoire%20de%20haute%20%C3%A9nergie

The planar detector consists of a crystal of either rectangular or circular cross section and a sensitive thickness of 1-20 mm... The electric field is perpendicular to the cross-sectional area of the crystal. The crystal thickness is selected on the basis of the gamma-ray energy region relevant to the application of interest, with the small thicknesses optimum for low-energy measurements(for example in the L-x-ray region for special nuclear material). Planar detectors usually achieve the best energy resolution, because of their low capacitance; they are preferred for detailed spectroscopy, such as the analysis of the complex low-energy gamma-ray and x-ray spectra of uranium and plutonium. 1, record 2, English, - planar%20detector

2, record 2, French, - d%C3%A9tecteur%20planaire
