Technically speaking, the bokashi method is a form of fermentation rather than composting—while composting decomposes waste and results in matter ready to be added to a garden, bokashi ferments(or pickles) food and results in matter still too acidic to be added to plants. That's why the final stage of bokashi composting is to add the bokashi matter to a compost bin or fallow spot in the garden. In short, bokashi is a way to quickly ferment food scraps so that they can be composted faster. 4, record 15, English, - bokashi

No-dig gardening is a method that aims for minimal disturbance of the soil, so that the natural processes can be preserved. This allows the natural organisms to thrive, increasing the soil' s overall health and therefore that of your plants. An example of these organisms is mycorrhizal fungus, which forms a mutualistic relationship with plants and aid in root growth. Digging your garden can break up the fungal threads in the soil, meaning that your plants don’t benefit from these helpful organisms. No-dig gardening allows natural relationships between organisms to flourish and preserves the overall structure of the soil, leading to improved plant growth. 1, record 21, English, - no%2Ddig%20gardening

A rain garden is a garden of native shrubs, perennials, and flowers planted in a small depression, which is generally formed on a natural slope. It is designed to temporarily hold and soak in rain water runoff that flows from roofs, driveways, patios or lawns. Rain gardens are effective in removing up to 90% of nutrients and chemicals and up to 80% of sediments from the rainwater runoff. Compared to a conventional lawn, rain gardens allow for 30% more water to soak into the ground. 1, record 74, English, - rain%20garden

Urbanism and disurbanism in the Soviet Union. ... Milyutin was not a pure disurbanist. he preferred being in between the two currents of urbanism and disurbanism, calling for a renewed urban lifestyle in which the city would have met the countryside by sharing housing and social institutions. On the one hand, he did not want to abolish the city in order to create a pure industrialised socialist countryside (as in Okhitovich’s disurbanist city concept ...), as the most radical disurbanists would have preferred, but he did want to limit the growth of existent cities at any cost, as he considered them a product of the contradictions of capital, and for this reason oppressive towards the proletariat. 2, record 80, English, - disurbanist

3, record 80, French, - d%C3%A9surbaniste

Municipal legislatures would have to decide how to balance what a majority of neighbors could mandate for their block and what safeguards were necessary to protect the minority. They might also want to experiment with added incentives--for example, providing reserved on-street parking for residents who give up back-yard garages for the sake of a block garden. 1, record 88, English, - block%20garden

2, record 88, French, - jardin%20d%27%C3%AElot

The increasing concentration of 1,2-DCP detected in Village production wells concerned SWDO’s Division of Drinking and Ground Water (DDAGW). In the summer of 1997, DDAGW requested that Ripley take action to reduce the concentration of 1,2-DCP to below 5.0 µg/l. Failure to do so would lead to requirements for costly treatment. The most viable option for the village was determined to be the installation of a interception well as a temporary method to capture the 1,2-DCP plume before it reaches the well field. 1, record 91, English, - interception%20well

As we start our planning we should keep a few basic design principles in mind. We will, through careful planning, want to improve on the good, bad, and the ugly, logically to create a wonderful garden area. Most professional designers, after years of practice, will apply these principles automatically. The following is a list of a few basics. Unity : This is probably the most important area for the overall plan. A good plan will have unity in all things. Because we are more accustomed to recognizing and accepting objects with equally distributed parts on a vertical axis, we identify this visual satisfaction as balance. When both sides of an axis are mirror images of each other, they are in symmetry, a landscape formula used for generations in so-called formal garden layouts.
