Algae and aquatic biomass has the potential to provide a new range of third generation biofuels, including jet fuels. Their high oil and biomass yields, widespread availability, absent (or very reduced) competition with agricultural land, high quality and versatility of the by-products, their efficient use as a mean to capture CO2 and their suitability for wastewater treatments and other industrial plants make algae and aquatic biomass one of the most promising and attractive renewable sources for a fully sustainable and low-carbon economy portfolio. 2, record 1, English, - third%2Dgeneration%20biofuel

An instrument which responds to density changes in the gas stream, directly related to the molecular weights. Several forms of gas density balance have been developed since this type of detector was first introduced by Martin and James. Improvements in instrumentation have led to a revival of interest in it as a detector system suitable for molecular-weight studies. The density changes are measured by means of a form of U-tube, one limb of which contains pure carrier gas and the other column effluent gas. An anemometer situated between the two limbs detects and measures any density difference. Using nitrogen or argon carrier gas the limit of detection is 0. 4 μg, response is linear with concentration, and it can be used for molecular weight determinations for values below 200 and for percentage composition studies. 5, record 8, English, - gas%20density%20balance

CN gas, or chloroacetophenone or phenacyl chloride, is a substance used as a riot control agent. ... It was investigated, but not used, during the First and Second World Wars, and was used by United States forces in Vietnam. Because of its greater toxicity, it has largely been supplanted by CS gas. CN is still supplied to paramilitary and police forces in a small pressurized aerosol can known as "Mace" or tear gas. Its use has fallen by the wayside as pepper spray works faster and disperses more quickly than CN. 3, record 10, English, - CN%20gas

The driving force in substitutions between primary energies is twofold. On one hand we have the economies of scale involved in the technology and distribution infrastructures of each energy source. On the other hand we have the fact that during the last 200 years, the fuel mix of the world’s primary energy sources has evolved toward "lighter" forms, i.e., fuel forms richer in hydrogen. The hydrogen/carbon (H/C) ratio increased from wood (H/C =0.1) to coal (H/C=1) to oil (H/C=2) to natural gas (H/C=4). 6, record 15, English, - hydrogen%2Fcarbon%20ratio

In 1963, Bevan and Thoburn introduced a new concept in gas chromatographic detectors-a quantitative integral detector. These investigators made a practical gravimetric detector using an automatic-recording vacuum balance. Since the gravimetric detector integrates, a step-to-step pattern is provided instead of the usual chromatographic succession of peaks. The weight increase from each step-to-step increment is the amount of component present in that fraction and the total weight increase is the total sample weight.
