GAS CAPSULE [4 records]

Record 1 2010-04-28

English

Subject field(s)
  • Weather Stations and Meteorological Instruments and Equipment
  • Scientific Instruments
DEF

A thin, disk-shaped box or capsule, usually metallic, partially evacuated and sealed, held extended by a spring which expands and contracts with changes in atmospheric pressure.

CONT

Aneroid barometer : An instrument for measuring atmospheric pressure. It is constructed on the following principles : an aneroid capsule(Vidie capsule, which is a thin, disk-shaped box or capsule, usually metallic) is partially evacuated of gas, and is restrained from collapsing by an external or internal spring. The deflection of the spring will be nearly proportional to the difference between the internal and external pressures. Magnification of the spring deflection is obtained both by connecting capsules in series and by mechanical linkages.

OBS

The Aneroid of M. Vidi.

DEF

CONT

While considered the safest of diving systems, the hard-hat rig is nonetheless subject to hazards.

CONT

Deep diving systems. With the increase in offshore oil and gas drilling, and with offshore mining being contemplated, a more efficient system of diving deep has been developed. This system, called either deep dive system(DDS) or advanced dive system(ADS), incorporates a pressurized personnel transfer capsule(PTC), like an elevator, in which the divers ascend and descend rapidly to working depths. The divers, employing mixed-gas hookah breathing apparatus and wearing lightweight suits, emerge from the PTC to work.
