Researchers at the River Road Environmental Technology Centre annually carry out about 1, 500 different types of motor vehicle tests by "driving" test cars on a chassis dynamometer. The data obtained gives Environment Canada an idea of the kinds and amounts of emissions being generated by Canada's 13 million automobiles. The dynamometer, a treadmill-like device which, in conjunction with sampling equipment and extremely accurate gas analyses, allows computers to tally a vehicle's emissions of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and NOx under simulated driving conditions. Automotive manufacturers use similar equipment to certify vehicles before they are mass-produced; the tests serve as spot checks to monitor actual emissions. 2, record 1, English, - chassis%20dynamometer

Flux Cored Wire Welding-FCW. FCW welding is closely related to Gas Metal-Arc Welding(GMAW). The flux filled wire is automatically fed through the centre of the gun using the same equipment as when GMA-welding. The shielding gas is supplied through the gun and protects the weld pool from oxidation during welding. The flux inside the wire will protect the weld from the atmosphere since it forms a slag which covers the weld. 2, record 2, English, - flux%2Dcored%20wire%20welding

The shape and size of the pellets differs for different reactors but in the U. K. there are only 2 different designs. Solid pellets are used in most PWRs [pressurized water reactor] and annular pellets are used in AGRs [advanced gas reactor]. Annular pellets have a cylindrical hole running through the centre of the pellet and thus require a retractable pin in the press. The purpose of this hole is to accommodate distortions in the fuel and fission gasses formed in the reactor. Once the pellets have been pressed, they are sintered at 1750°C in a reducing atmosphere of hydrogen or a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen... 1, record 6, English, - annular%20pellet

The reverse thrust system provides means of decelerating aircraft during the landing roll, thus reducing landing roll length. The thrust reverser units are attached at the turbine outlet case of each engine. The clamshell door type thrust reverser provides reversal of thrust by blocking the engine exhaust gas and fan air flow and deflecting the gasses through openings made by repositioned defector doors or by fixed cascade vane openings depending on the type of reverser mechanism. Exhaust gases of the centre engine are deflected forward and out of the sides of the aft fuselage, and on strut mounted engines gases are deflected above and below the engine in a forward direction. 2, record 7, English, - reverse%20thrust%20system

A large city of Alberta, located on the Bow River, in the southern part of the province, at the meeting of the Canadian prairies and the Rocky Montains foothills. The city started as a trading post(fur trade, bison hunting and illicit-whisky trading) with the construction of a fort named Fort Calgary by the North-West Mounted Police at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers in 1876.(The word Calgary, of Gaelic origin, means "bay farm. ") "Fort Calgary" is linked to Canada by the railway in 1883; the Canadian Pacific Railway(CPR) Company laid out its town site where the city now lies. Incorporated under the name "Calgary" in 1884, the town received the city status in 1893. Financial centre of Western Canada and headquarters of Canada's oil and natural gas industries, Calgary, host of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, is the fastest growing Canadian city in the West. 2, record 12, English, - Calgary

2, record 12, French, - Calgary

The Binishell pneumatic-form construction technique for bulk grain is another interesting development in concrete storage. In this concept, reinforcing steel is laid out on the ground, concrete is poured on top of it, and the pneumatic form lifts the whole "pie" up from the centre to its final dome shape. After the concrete sets, the pneumatic form is removed. This type of dome can also be erected with vertical sidewalls to produce a conventional bulk storage bin, with a diameter as large as 30 metres. Research is currently under way aimed at using this system to achieve air tight concrete bulk grain tanks so that nitrogen gas and chemicals could be used to enhance grain keeping quality. 1, record 15, English, - Binishell%20pneumatic%2Dform%20construction%20technique

1, record 15, French, - proc%C3%A9d%C3%A9%20Binishell%2C%20%C3%A0%20coffrages%20pneumatiques
